We were there on the weekend of the 19th.  We noticed at least 6-7 dead fish in different areas of the lake as well.  I've never seen this before at Briery???

As for catching, we caught about the same amount of fish as we normally do on trips down there.

I was there on the 26th..saw two dead at the dam, 2.5 to 3.5's easy. Disturbing.

I saw several of the dead bass today. I was told that the rapid warming of the water was the culprit. It didn't hurt the catching though (well except the dead ones wouldn't bite, LOL)

Wayne as always is being modest. What he didn't tell you is that he caught a 9.3 pound bass the other day. The man knows this lake. Truly a machine

wayne p definitely knows his stuff. he provides a wealth of information just from his posts i can only imagine what one could learn fishing with him in person.

hookingem, I'm not as successful at landing the really large ones like some others are. I hook several in the 12#-16# class every year, even getting some within a rod's length of the boat, and haven't completed the task. My largest one landed there is 10 pounds and 4 ounces 27"

I read how succesfull you are there and i swear your gonna catch the next state record! I know the new state record is in that place!

I've been reading alot of the post form Wayne about Briery Creek sounds like he really knows his stuff.  I've got some time off from work in August the week of the 16th taken my son and going to Breiry.  Wondering if the flukes w/weighted hooks and wacky worms are good that time of year.  Also you said keep ur back to the bank fish the deep water near the power lines.  Only been there 1x.

hookingem, I've had the record hooked three times. I just haven't been lucky enough to get that one back out of the trees after having it close and on the surface only to have it dive back into submerged laydowns.

just curious wayne was it recent that you had some thing pushing the state record or was it a while back ... just wondering i hear so many things for old timers in my parts that its gone down or gone up. ive only been able to fish the for about 2 years with a boat and getting a gas motor this year defiantly made a difference.

The hot weather hasn't affected my catch rate. The most significant thing about this year is the lack of weeds that had the benefit of keeping the water a whole lot clearer. The upper end has looked muddy to very dingy all year even with the infrequent rains. I fished there yesteday and the surface water temp got up to 91 degrees due to the water color and air temp. The thermocline is beginning to form at about the 20' level. That will eliminate a lot of water to try and find the bass.

Here is the thermocline at that level in 2D sonar and Down Imaging:
