BassinAssassin171 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I went fishin yesterday with a bunch of my buddies and we were whackin em all over the place with jigs. Afterward, in the car, I noticed that my friend had left the trailer on his jig and the jig on the line. I didn't object to leaving the jig on, but I pointed out to him that he should have put away the trailer to preserve the scent and moisture of the plastic (so it doesn't shrivel up and become worthless). He and my other friend argued with me calling it "a controversial subject." I'm pretty sure they were just messin with me, but would someone please gimme a good response to knock some sense into them? (they are on BR too) Quote
Rob.Atl Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Its totally a contraversial subject AL give it up Quote
BassinAssassin171 Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 shut up rob, my avatar pic is bigger so there Quote
Rob.Atl Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 But the bass you caught in that picture was caught on a rat l trap so ur a jig newbie imo Quote
Castamasta Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 i say it is contraversial because if you have a tough trailer ( not gulp or berkley powerbait) then you can leave it on. take it off if it is gulp or powerbait because they tend to shrivel up Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 The trailers I make with salt impregnated I take off so they won't rust the hooks. The non salt ones I leave on because they won't do any damage. Quote
Chad. Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Enless its pork you don't need to, but some stinky baits and when its hot outside i would take the trailer off also the rusty hooks factor. O' well it's a great thing jigs are cheap! Well at least the booyah's Quote
Bass XL Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I take mine off because they wont fit in my jig box with them on. Quote
Rob.Atl Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 aha see trey taking them off isnt neccessary in some cases lol the time you can spend not taking them off is another post here duhh Quote
Cory20 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 aha see trey taking them off isnt neccessary in some cases lolthe time you can spend not taking them off is another post here duhh So, are you fishing plastic trailers with or with out salt? I take mine off and let my jigs dry out before storage. This has cut down on rust for me. Quote
Big-O Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Do what you know is best and don't worry about the other guy. Keep your trailers as fresh as possible and that means plastics too. They can drag theirs down a dirt road and it shouldn't bother you a bit. Heck, my loaners are my new ones. I use my experienced ones, (notice I didn't say used) cause they have proven themselves worthy. They are my Pro Team. Quote
Castamasta Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 rob im gonna have to give in on this one. im goin for the big fish and if a fresh trailer is what it takes im gonna take em off. Trey you win Quote
Rob.Atl Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 hudson you know this whole thing was a joke i hope of course i take of my trailers lol Quote

pondhopper Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 This post makes me glad that fishing has no rules ( regulations excepted), just good and not so good fishermen. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 9, 2008 Super User Posted April 9, 2008 The only rule of fishing is your imagination Quote
Masshole Mike Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 i dip my trailers in JJ's Magic and if i don't take them off and seal them back in a bag, everything within 30 feet of that trailer takes on an overpowering garlic scent. so yeah i take my trailers off every time haha. Quote
