BassinWill301 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Recently i have been finding semicircular scratches on my hardbaits. these are round the front treble hook and are really annoying me because it ruins the look of the hardbaits. I was wondering why this is happening and is there any way to stop this. This has happened to lures i have fished and not fished, and even on a lucky craft jerkbait. i can not post pictures now, but i will if they are needed. Thank you for the response in advance. Quote
RichardE Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I believe that comes from the hooks. I have baits with that and it does not appear to affect the fish, at least that I can tell. On my favorite bait I get them and continue to catch fish on it. I would not suggest reducing hook size to correct, to me it's not worth the loss of hook potential. Just my opinion. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 Yep, hook scratches. LC's are bad for that. Quote
bmadd Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 There's nothing you can really do to prevent it while fishing but when in storage, you can purchase hook bonnets to place over your trebles so they don't scratch your finish. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 I catch more fish with those scratched baits. Quote

You might not like them but the bass could care less about some scratches. They'll bust the bait regardless. Quote
BassinWill301 Posted April 8, 2008 Author Posted April 8, 2008 Thanks for the response guys. I figured that the scratches were from the hooks. I still catch fish on the scratched baits, so i guess it really doesnt matter. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 I catch more fish with those scratched baits. Yup same here the more beat and battered the better if u r worried about um getting scratched hang um up on ur wall ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 I think the reason "scratched baits" work better is because you have caught fish on them and therefore, use them more often. The scratches themselves probably don't add or detract from the performance of the lure. : Quote

The fish in my avatar was caught on a scratched up bandit. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Yeah lucky crafts are esp. bad for that. I have those hook marks on every one of my lucky crafts except the ones that are still in the boxes. Their paint tends to get chipped really easily too, you think for the money you spend on them they could use chip resistant paint? Just my opinion Quote

Just my opinion which is why you should spend half of the money on a rapala rapalas have 7-12 epoxy clear coats and the epoxy will get scratched but the actual paint will not, and you can brush on some clear fingernail polish over the epoxy scratches and you cant see em anymore. its too bad bandit and lucky craft do not have epoxy clear coats : Quote
Rob G. Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 My posting is somewhat hippocritical, but I cannot believe a post like this carried over to two pages after the first post answered it fine. LOL. Not even Winter for most of us anymore. Quote

Super User Munkin Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 Those outbarb Megabass Visions are worse than LC. As far as being scratched I have a silver pointer that is now half clear, missing an eye and on its 7th set of trebles but still works. Allen Quote
