Mudwalker Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hey guys and gals. I am taking some kids fishing out of Chickahominy Riverfront Park the first part of April. None of us have ever fished there and i was hoping someone can tell me what to expect and maybe some areas to go to. We will be fishing for bass. I don't want or expect anyone to give up their secrets but just offer some info that would help me ensure the kids have a good trip. Thanks. Quote
Mudwalker Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Sam, Got it and sent a reply. Thanks a million! Again, I will let you know how the kids do. Quote
endless Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I'm sorry I don't know anything but just wanted to say good luck and have fun! Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Sam, you didn't give away any of our secret spots, did you? I told you, we SELL those secrets, not give them away. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Micro, can you PM the guy and give him some tips? We have to fish the Chick this summer. No excuses. Did not give up many secret places, just a few. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 P.S. Mudwalker, that is the fish Micro caught with me on the Chick. Sorry, it is a secret place. Keep it to your self if you find it. Quote
Mudwalker Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 P.S. Mudwalker, that is the fish Micro caught with me on the Chick. Sorry, it is a secret place. Keep it to your self if you find it. :D I'll be lucky if I just find the Chick! Quote
Mudwalker Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 We fished the Chick on Saturday as planned even though the weather was not looking too good. We hit the water around 7 am and caught two fish within the first 30 minutes then nothing. The tide was outgoing and true to Sam's info, the bite dropped at slack tide. It never picked up with the incoming tide but the wind sure did! All in all, everyone had a great time and were happy with the two that were caught. Thanks for the info! Quote
luv2fish33 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Were you guys in a boat or fishing off the banks? Quote

Super User Micro Posted April 7, 2011 Super User Posted April 7, 2011 Opinions may vary, but IMO the lower Chick River itself sucks for bass fishing. Going back into the creeks, like Morris Creek, and further up the Chick is the way to go. When I fish the lower Chick, I always taste the water. If there is a hint of salt in it, I go to the back of Morris Creek. I don't even bother with the cypress stands on the main river. The lower Chick (and much of all of the Chick) is true brackish water. Salt can intrude all the way up to the dam. There are days when you can smell the salt and can catch croaker and speckled trout in the lower river and mouth of Morris Creek. I've seen kids catch croakers off the pier at Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area. If the water is too salty, the bass move to the backs of creeks or further up the river where the water is fresher. Quote
Mudwalker Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Good info Micro. I made the run up river, abot 3/4 of the way first thing and that is where we caught the two fish. We went into Shipyard creek and Morris creek. The finder was fill of fish but nothing was biting by that time. I will definitely head back there this season when the weather isn't so rough. Quote
