Reel_Kaotic Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Post an update on how the conditions were and fishing. May have venture out to the lakes sooner, then planned. Quote
Carrington Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 why dont we just get enough guys with boats and goto anna, if yall pick anna and im not in school then ill come down and bring my boat. I just think anna will also produce bigger fish. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 why dont we just get enough guys with boats and goto anna, if yall pick anna and im not in school then ill come down and bring my boat. I just think anna will also produce bigger fish. By the looks from last years meet up looks like majority of the guys fish off the bank and dont own a boat...dont think that will work well on Anna. 2-3 guys take off on bass boats for the day while rest stuck on the bank at some marina ;D Quote
heyitskirby Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 The bank fishing at Powhatan Lakes isn't really all that ideal. Its hard to walk around other than the dams and fishing piers. If you head a little bit further up Rt. 60 there is the Powhatan Ponds. There are three of them with more bank fishing. They are obviously not as big, but two have primitive boat ramps. Also, bring your tick spray and where long pants at either places. First time I went to the ponds I was pulling ticks off for a week. Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I saw the ponds in DGIF and google maps. Definitely looks more accessible for bank fishing. I probably would bring my boat there. How is the fishing at the ponds? Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 caught this one today at innsbrook Quote
Carrington Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 very nice fish man, i remeber when we went, we didnt catch anything lol. Quote
heyitskirby Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Size and numbers will be better at the Ponds due to the fact that the Lakes were only recently refilled and restocked for a couple of years. The most important thing to remember (and I know most of you do it), but CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY at Powhatan Lakes. The Ponds are also a great spot for kids. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 caught this one today at innsbrook Nice fish, what did you get him on? I took all my reels to get worked on and ready for the upcoming season so, I am going to have to fish through one of you guys this week. Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 i caught him on a lipless crankbait in red crawdad color Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks! I had a feeling it was a lipless, but I would not have gotten the color. Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 i have got more fish and my biggest fish on that bait last year than any other bait Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Nice catch! Went out today (Sunday), and got sunked. Took all plastics, jigs, senkos, and jerkbaits. Nothing. Try again next weekend. Quote
hokiefisherman93 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Now that is a fish, nice catch chris. Let me know what you are doing this weekend. If you are interested in possibly hitting up the river. I got a canoe if you want to try that pony pasture area we waded once Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 yea i wouldnt mind trying that i actually live very close to pony pasture now do you still have my number? Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 You guys ever head down to the end of Landry Dr.? Quote
hokiefisherman93 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I am not familiar of that place, never heard of it. I usually fish the upper james. Bremo-Columbia and Hardware-Bremo and then Pony pasture/hugenot flatwater, and then downtown at belle isle and the 95bridge area. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 It is right below where Pony Pasture is. If you get to PP by way of Forrest Hill. From Forest Hill heading towards the river right as the road bends to the left ( a small bank) after you pass the condos, and clear that strip mall there. Make that right, go over to blocks and make a left (onto Landary Dr.). Drive until you get to the cul-de-sac. I think it is the Jamer River Wetlands area, a good walk to get down there, but not too many people an OPEN slow water, easy to wade. Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 yea i have caught some decent catfish andd have seen a few snakes near landry dr Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Anyone headed out Innsbrook (Lake Rooty) in the next two days? Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 i will be there tomorrow and saturday Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I went today, around 4pm. I little windy. Caught a 2# and 3#. Lets know how you do tomorrow. Wish I could make it out. May make it out Saturday morning. Quote
Prmetme Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 What part of the lake you catch them at and on what? Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Lake Rooty, on corner on Nuckles and Cox. Anything from white/char spinners, lipless cranks, and senkos work great. Quote
