Triton Bob Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Could not go this weekend. Just wondering how the fishing was? Quote
GLADES Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I went out today and wasted a lot of gas driving around and checking a few spots for next Sunday kotg. I talked to a guy fishing the Renegade T along the L67 and he had 3 small keepers. I stayed away from the ramp at weigh in so I do not know how some of the others fared. Quote
bocabasser Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 21 pounds won on sunday and then went down to 13+ and third was 11+. i put in at the park at 11:30 and fished until 5. fished the L68 and caught 3 small fish flippin. decided to run to the fingers and got blanked. water was ripping to the south. ran to the alley and had 15 pounds in an hour. fished the four corners with a big worm and caught 2 small fish. fished the L68A and caught a huge mudfish flippin. called it a day. GLADES Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 It is amazing to me that those guys caught 21 lbs. That is pretty tough to beat. Quote
Triton Bob Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks. I wonder if the winning weight was caught in the flats? At least that's my guess. Least I won't be getting in there with my boat. Quote
piscicidal Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I see the winner had 1st and 2nd place big fish. He's on different fish than the rest of us, it appears. You guys fishing the KOTG qualifier Sunday...see you out there! Good luck! Quote
topwaterrob Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I'd love to see where that guy is comin up with those fish pullin in 20 plus lbs when we're struggling to grab 12 to 15 every week...... Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Been to glades a few times but not sure of canals...any help? L67a goes west out of park then turns south? Miami canal is middle? 68a is east canal that runs north? About month ago caught about 25lbs at mm41, anyone been there lately? want to fish tomorrow and havent decided where. Quote

I fished between 35 and 41 last week after one our fronts. The whole place was over-run with gars and mudfish, never seen so many before.. Caught one bass in half a day... 3 mudfish 2 gar It sucked! But hey that was last week Quote

Exactly... seems like every year theres a few who do a little to good Some of those guys that win the tournaments practically live out there, and they are dam good fisherman. For us weekend warriors, we just have to have the stars align and be at the right place at the right time. I am fishing the kotg this weekend and I am hoping to weigh in a decent bag this time. Quote
Shane Procell Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Fished Holiday with Dan from JD'sCustomBaits today. Started by going to the Alley. Picked up a couple on frogs. Nothing really happening there. Went back to L67 and picked up a doz but all were dinks. Everyone we talked to was dinking as well. [imgimg] Quote
Triton Bob Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Well thanks for all the tips. Going tomorrow hope to have good day. Not fishing KOTG. Quote
piscicidal Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 How'd you guys do at holiday park yesterday? Our day was pretty typical it seems talking to a few guys there. A ton of fish...nothing big. We caught 40-50 fish for sure, but only two over 2lbs. We ended up weighing ~8lbs. We would have been close to 10, but I pulled a real bonehead move. Our biggest fish (~3lbs) jumped straight out of the livewell into the water as I was culling a 1.25lb fish. I was loading the boat when the final teams weighed in...I believe they paid to about sixth place which was in the 12lb range (I'm not positive...)?? Very surprising that the bite was that poor...usually takes 20+ to be in the money. I saw some outstanding anglers weighing in single digits. Quote
Catching Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 We had 7.7 pounds with 5 fish, caught tons of little guys just could not get a big girl to bite, we did not stick around the weigh in to see the rest of the results but from what I heard I think first palce was around 15 pounds, one of the tougher days I have ever had at the park I think I saw you in the back cleaning up the boat, but not sure do you have the green and white triton? Quote
salmicropterus Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 We struggled yesterday-had only about 7#s. I had a pretty good club T the day before -10-11# (winner had 18 but I was third) but nada in those same places and other places yesterday. I think there has been a lot pressure out there and it is showing. That's my excuse LOL Quote

Dan, We fished in my partner Jack's (shallow thinker) boat: a yellow maverick. We were in the third flight and weighed in right after the leader...he weighed 17lbs and change. He had a 7.0lber and one just shy of 5. I'm not sure if he won, because I spent the next half hour waiting to load the boat. But judging by the weights, it's hard to imagine anyone beating him. Quote

Seriously, though...I think there's something to that statement. The place has been getting hammered pretty good. Quote
Triton Bob Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 I fished Saturday and Sunday. The area on the alley I fished on Saturday I could have easily weighed in 15 pounds. Sunday same spot had a hard time weighing in 6 pounds. I thought something with the ph might have shut them down Bob Quote
Catching Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 It is all the 25 foot ocean boats running around out there joy riding on Saturday's :. I think those guys should be outlawed from the park we had one guy power up to get on plane just before we passed them going south, no time to slow down. Needless to say we got airborne on their three foot wake. Talked to another guy and the same boat slowed down on them while they were fighting a fish and almost knocked him off the boat with the wake they put up. Quote

Ha-saw the boat do it to someone just down the line from us. What are they looking for, tuna? I hate to say it and I know I'm gonna get some pushback on this but the vast majority of bone-headedness out there (and at the ramp) comes from center-console people. They start their boat prep in the ramp lane and finish their post-prep in the same place-simply amazing. I can only imagine the impact of one of those boats on the park rental boats which are usually holding 3-4+ people. One of the big boats was running back north on the L-67 in the left edge of the canal with no traffic around-I'm just saying Quote
GLADES Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I went out Saturday for 3 hours and boated 5@14#. My partner lost a nice kicker on a black 12" worm that probably was in the 4-5# range. We ended up not fishing the kotg on Sunday. Sounds like we did not miss much. The bigger ocean boats running wide open in crowded canals do pose a hazard, especially to the rental boats. Other than keeping a heavy sinker tied on a bait caster, not much can be done. Maybe the park should put up some signs reminding folks about safety and courtesy at the ramp. Quote

You'll never catch me out there in my Saltwater boat. I know the wake that thing kicks up. I'd feel absolutely horrible if I ran by a bass or flats boat while on a plane. Even slowing down, theres still going to be a large wake rolling down after it for a while. Quote
Triton Bob Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Thats what usually happens to me on the rim ditch. Never fails one of those huge sport fish boats running wide open puts water over the bow on my boat soaking rods reels and me. At least 3.5 ft waves. Nothing you can about it. And what gets me is the guy just looks at you like oh well. Quote
