I am fishing the flw college tournament on lake guntersville, I have never been there and cant practice, so I hope some of you can help. It is the last weekend of Feb. from what I have heard you need to target fish offshore in the grass with big traps, jigs and jerk baits. Is this acurate? is there areas that tend to be better than others? how do we find this grass? what depth? at this point any thing will help.

Grass isn't hard to find, its still on the flats in the main channel. Traps are good this time of year. The water is still cold but it's warming pretty quick now that we have some moderate temps. The shad are starting to move up shallow and the fish can move up with them at any time. I'd look for 5-10 ft of water and throw some traps where there is grass. Red is usually the best color by far.

Its still kind of hit and miss but, as stated the warmer temps will certainly help things a bunch. Keep the troller down and cover water till you hit a wad of fish. I fish from 2-7' deep. I went a couple times last week......had only 2 keepers one day and the other when it was overcast I had 21lbs for my best 5 with big fish of 7lb 10oz.

A good lake map and finding the flats and humps is key.
