BassShephard Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Private pond, one I frequent since its down the road maybe 2.5 acres really nice small pond, I have pics here of it http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1296358207/45#45 Best thing about it is its 75-100 feet away from another pond of equal size and a decent size creek below that pond (pics on the same page) lots of fun in the summer Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 8, 2011 Super User Posted February 8, 2011 Should be nice weather February 13 through 17 so you can go fishing each day!!! Quote
KWM Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 God I know, might be heading out to burke and to lake anne in reston of the 12 and 13. Let me know if anyone else is going out. Maybe showing places, then you can leave me and head for your money spots. Quote
BassShephard Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I hope so I'd like to go to other places but I'm still not familiar with late winter and early spring so I hate to make a trip not have any luck. Here is a creek I want to fish, it has lots of swamps, I've fished from the bridge but never in a boat. I should be able to find some nice Chain pike or dead bodies Up stream. Down Stream Quote
Alex 703 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 wow that creek looks amazing... I went out yesterday and got skunked but its going to be sunny this whole week so that should melt the ice off my favorite ponds :D Quote
BassShephard Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I went to that creek today! Just fishing from the bridge, I had some little Chain Pike follow my bait, strike and miss. After awhile and using different baits the mepp Spinner pulled through, I hooked a Chain pike which felt like snagging a rock, my 16 year old reel (the new one I bought last year broke, 3rd broken reel in 3 years : ) flew apart (least I had it for 16 years before it broke) so I reel the pike in with my hands and made the mistake of picking up on the line. The pike falls off on the bank, hits the water, I dive on my knees and stick my arm in to grab it but he got away.... Still counts if I get it on the bank right? I really wanted to hold that fish, he was only around 14 inches, I know that isn't big for a pike but its the biggest I've caught. Now excited, I couldn't wait to catch some more! but after a few cast I realized my licenses expired during fall, so I got the hell out of there (I was just at the sporting good store this morning......... ) I don't have money to pay fines. Here are updated pics of the creek, didn't realize it had this much water, but its covered in vegetation/lily pads during summer. If this isn't pike heaven I don't know what is. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Looks like a good place to fish, espeically from the bank. Congrats on the three bass, I would be excited to catch anything in this cold weather. hahah Quote
BassShephard Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks! I feel stupid though, when I was at the sporting goods store 2 people were talking about fishing (one worked there) one was talking about he had caught catfish and the other that he caught some strippers. Thinking I had accomplished something by catching those little bass I interrupted and said I've been catching small LBass, they gave me a funny look and the went back to talking. Few Seconds later the guy who works there was showing him a mounted Bass (prob 6-7 pounds) that he caught in Jan :-[ I plan to fish again for Chain pike today, I have the fever! But I will have to fish at the other creek because I have permission there, its private property so long as I fish from the bank I believe I don't need licenses (least that is how I determined what the law means) Chain pike aren't as common in it though so I doubt I will catch anything (there is a slim chance on Smallies and Bowfin though).
