I was just wondering if anyone fished at one of the 9 lakes they got there.  I'm military, so I can probly get some of you guys on if you want to.  Don't know if there are boat ramps but if its not really fished, I bet we can pull some big ones out there if its stocked.

I thought citizens can fish the ponds? I know citizens can fish on Quantico.

Yes, I have fished one pond.

You can get a daily or annual pass to fish the ponds.

After you go through the vehicle search the guards will give you directions to where you can get a pass.

You will need a valid drivers license and a car registration.

You then drive about two miles to the building where you can purchase your pass and obtain a map of the post.

Continue on the same road and you will come by a few places to fish. One has a place to turn in and park and you can fish that pond along the road. I think this is Travis Pond but don't hold me to it.

I have caught about 1.5 pound bass in that pond and have never been back to try the other ponds.

There is also a pond that is open to the public along Route 2.

I was told I could bring my boat but never have tried to take the craft onto the base.

Best ponds are on the east/south side of the base but you can't fish them as this is the area where the explosives and live ammunition is used.

Have fun and let us know how you do.  :)

P.S.  DO NOT SPEED ON POST!!!!

My wife and I have fished AP Hill several times. We hit three of the ponds but only one produces regularly for us. As far as boats, I believe they only allow non-gasoline boats. We use a 14 ft Jon boat with electric or kayaks. There is a pond (Beaver Pond I think) that is behind the athletic field that's about 1/2 mile from the gate by the housing area. Not much luck there but we only hit there twice. The pond we had tthe most lick in is Travis lake. There is the upper and lower lake because there is a causeway dividing it. We hit the upper mostly because it holds a fairly stable level of water. It has a small ramp and parking area but each time we went there was never more than 2 boats on the water including us. One trip we caught over 20 bass between us. No lunkers but there are some in there. Plenty of cover and lilly pads.

Like Sam said before, you need to get a base fishing permit but that is painless. Again, watch your speed and do not carry any firearms on you or in your vehicle.

Truer words were never spoken.  25 mph speed limit means 24.  Get three tickets on a military base and lose your right to drive on one.

I do allot of my fishing in AP hill. I usually fish from my jon boat besides Beaverdam. I can walk around that pond. If walk to back of pond there's lilies and tree stumps everywhere. It's like a different pond then. I've been meaning to try Beaverdam when the trout is stock. There's thee ponds you can hit from outside the base but still require permits. Boyou on rt 2. Smoot's on Smoot's rd and Whites lake off of perimeter rd.(I think I spelled that right). Smoot's is not ever 5 minutes from my house. I live on Chase st.

I have fished Boyou several times frogging and all the bass I caught from there range within 1.5 lb. I have caught a 4 lb bowfin there on a rage tail frog. Beaverdam I caught a 3.5 lb bass there on a hula popper. 3.12lb at Smoots on wacky. I haven't caught anything good at Whites lake or upper Travis. I've pulled out like a three foot snapping turtle out of lower Travis on a minnow. I've been wanting to frog either Bullocks or Buzzards(can't remember which). It's nothing but lilies there. Engineer pond looks to be deep from when I check it out. Never been to the rest but will try laser range this year. I'm getting my permits again when the water start to the thaw out.

Laser range, White's lake, and Smoot's pond you have to call before fishing to see if they training in those areas.

The 3.5 lb pic was taken at Mike's tackle shop.
