soccplayer07 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 welcome to NoVA! Do you have access to a boat? Quote
Alex 703 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 welcome to NOVA sadly all those lakes are private :-[ Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 1, 2011 Super User Posted February 1, 2011 Fairfax is public but the banks are generally coated in a layer of goose poo and it doesn't seem very productive. Quote
KWM Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Nope just a bank fisherman. Crap so I guess I will go to burke this weekend. Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Burke iced up? have not looked in a while Quote
BassShephard Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I don't know that area but try Google map and look around your area. Its helped me a lot, I've found quite a few new places to fish thanks to it. Unfortunately it doesn't give info on a specific lake, but you can check http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/waterbodies/?type=1®ion=5 to see if they're any places near or willing to drive to, these places are all public or other wise stated. Quote
KWM Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 But are those lakes private? I know in AK, if you fish in private, fish and game will take all your gear. They do not mess around. Quote

BassShephard Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 No problem ;D You may try Maryland to, (I don't know their websites address) of course you'd most likely need to buy that state's license, unless it borders both states like the Potomac in which case ether state license should work (least I think, not positive on that). here you go, marylands website http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/recreational/wherefish.html Quote
KWM Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Or anyone willing to support their country by taking this Soldier out on a boat? Quote
KWM Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Sorry, I'm bored at work. But has anyone fished at Lake Curtis? Is it a good lake? Quote
BassShephard Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Well if your ever out this way I would. Ask for a transfer to Fort Picket they have around 7 or more ponds on base 8-). Quote
KWM Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Fort A.P Hill has a lot. But don't know if they are any good. Quote
BassShephard Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I would try it! they may be open to people serving. Ask who ever is in charge. Quote
KWM Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 I'm going to. And it might be good. No pressure or slight fishing pressure. Quote
BassShephard Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I was thinking the same thing, doubt the soldiers would keep many fish. They may manage and stock the ponds too. Fort Pickett manages their own ponds, I really want to fish them but unfortunately you have to buy separate licenses. Quote
BassShephard Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Not positive since Department of game and inland fisheries manages the lakes stocking. I guess its cost for keeping the lakes themselves maintained like plugging leaks (if they happen) clearing trees, cutting grass, keeping it open to the civilians Etc This is what the site says: :The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries became responsible for the fish and wildlife management programs at Fort Pickett in the fall of 1997. To help fund these programs, a separate fishing permit is required. These permits are available at the Wildlife Management Station located on Fort Pickett, as well as in the town of Blackstone. Anglers can choose to fish from a number of different lakes. Access to some of the lakes is restricted due to military training exercises. Quote
KWM Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 Well, when I get around to it, I am going to call FT AP Hill to see what has to happen. I will keep anyone posted. I probly can get some of you guys on. Quote
Mudwalker Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 All the bases I have fished on required base fishing permits. Quantico and AP Hill both require them in addition to state licenses but they are also open to the public unlike other bases that restrict fishing to military only. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 6, 2011 Super User Posted February 6, 2011 Sorry, I'm bored at work. But has anyone fished at Lake Curtis? Is it a good lake? Pretty good lake, and decent shore fishing. I've caught my PB there. You can annihilate them on jigs. I actually fish this lake alot, it's only a few minutes from my house. Sorry, I don't have a boat though to take you out on the water. I also have two very nice, public, unpressured spots. PM me if you would like to know them 8-) Quote
KWM Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 So has anyone actually been fishing latelly? I haven't and I thought at least I can practice casting in the front yard. That was a bad move, because now the itch is worst than before and the lakes and ponds around here are still frozen over. Quote

I even check out Lake Fairfax but water was hard there also. Quote
