Orpssab Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Just returned from Deerfield and Pompono beach. Fishing canals and res ponds in 3 days caught 82 LM's one bowfin and first ever Oscar. Mostly on swim grubs and t-rig worms. Not a one Peacock as I expected anyway. How far into spring can I expect to start getting bit by them? Quote
salmicropterus Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I don't think it's a matter of season. The extreme cold of last year (this year hasn't helped)put a real hit on the peacocks particularly north of Alley. There used to be a thriving population up at Ida and Osborne and that's pretty much history excerpt for a few survivors here and there. Even south of the Alley, it was a big hit and the catch rates in Dade are down too although on a good day you might catch 10+. Quote
0119 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 It would be pretty rare indeed to catch a Peacock on a texas rigged worm or a plastic grub. They notoriously wont hit soft plastic. Quote
GLADES Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 It would be pretty rare indeed to catch a Peacock on a texas rigged worm or a plastic grub. They notoriously wont hit soft plastic. Very true. I have caught peas on floating crank baits and spinner baits with a medium speed retrieve. Quote
I.rar Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 peas are still alive and kickin in my parts. they have been much more pale in color and staying in or near deep water. i couldnt tell you what they are doing further north though. i have caught one or two peas on t rigged u tails and 4" trick sticks but they were a total surprise. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1282584740/0#0 super flukes and fluke jrs have always done well all year for me. i will typically fish slower when the water is cooler but they will let you know. also , DOA terroreyez are excellent when they are active. http://www.basspro.com/D-O-A-%C2%AE-TerrorEyz-Fishing-Lure/product/22285/-511571 Quote
Super User South FLA Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 Not sure any (peas) survived in Palm Beach Gardens, between last year and this year. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 I haven't caught a Peacock in the Delray area in a year. One of my friends says he caught one last week in a Boynton canal. Quote
