Shane Procell Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I was thinking about hitting Flamingo this morning but decided to explore a canal off Tamiami Tr. instead. This canal just across the levee from where the Value Jet crashed. The canal was absolutely incredible. We ran in about 15 miles and worked south with soft plastics (Garry Yamamoto senkos and Culprits and 2 on a Tenn. Shad Rapala HJ8. We boated close to 2 dozen. Most were dinks but we did have a few good ones. What really blew me away was the ecosystm in the canal. This place was alive with shiners and big bass. The water was crystal clear and the bass were easy to see. Saw many 5+#'ers just cruseing along the ledges. Tried like heck to get one to bite but no takers. This is the pefect place for a south florida bass camp out. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 21, 2010 Super User Posted December 21, 2010 Sounds like a sweet little area, Shane. Glad somebody down here is finding some fish that are biting. Quote
Shane Procell Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 Plenty big for a standard bass rig...there were a few out there. Everyone was hooking up. The boat ramp is nice too. The only thing that bothers me about the ramp is that it is extremely isolated. Quote
SoFl-native Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Used to love that canal. Fished it a ton back when i lived down there. Would drive right past the other 'L' and the other boats and keep going over the dike to that little gem. Quote
