Super User Sam Posted November 3, 2010 Super User Posted November 3, 2010 I'll be launching from High Point on Sunday and was wondering what is going on at Anna. I will probably stay around Contrary Creek, Route 208 Bridge and Pigeon Run areas. Any suggestions? Thanks. Quote
kickin bass14 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 There was a tournament that just went on in a forum I am on. The bass were pretty spread out. Some guys did pretty well fishing downlake. A couple guys managed to catch 3-5 fish right in Sturgeon Creek. Also, the North Anna has been holding some fish in it too. From what I read, most of the fish were caught in less than 10 feet of water around wood that was near bait balls. Go figure. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 4, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 4, 2010 With the blue bird skies on Sunday I think they will be under the docks. Quote
kickin bass14 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 docks=wood. sounds good to me. I am goin out with Ken Kirk Saturday to learn Anna a little better. will see how it goes. Quote
Bigs Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 wish I knew bout the cold side of Anna. Only been there a few times and did poorly. I need to get back out on the warm side here , between being sick and my trolling motor crapping out on me I havent been out in a week. Who are you fishing with on sunday ? Lemme know if you wanna hit the warm side instead. I was killin 'em from my dock last week after my trolling motor died. Zoom fat albert grubs, shakey heads and a rapala x rap have been the golden ticket over here. I managed 14 bass in one hour from my dock last tuesday night ;D Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 5, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 5, 2010 Steve, it is my bass club tournament. I look forward to discussing fishing the hot side with you in December or January if you can make it. One Fish Anna can be a very cruel body of water. Hope I catch some keepers. Quote
VekolBass Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I was there a week ago. There were two good fish found in the upper lake hanging on submerged structure. I was using a Rapala DT 14. Caught two small ones using a Baby 1 Minus. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 5, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 5, 2010 Vekol, on Sunday it will be sunny and blue bird skis so we will hit the docks, boathouses and any wood we can find. Will throw a DT6 plus the shaky head, wacky rig, Sexy Shad spinnerbait, Chatterbait and #5 and #7 Shad Raps. Will skip baits under docks and boathouses. With throw moving baits and shaky head at the wood. May also throw a drop shot, depending on what the bass are doing. Thanks to all for your input. Sincerely appreciate it. Quote
VekolBass Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Let us know how you do Sam. Plan on being on Anna next Saturday--weather permitting. It is the opening day of general rifle season--the one day I refuse to go into the woods. It's either fishing or chores! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 6, 2010 Super User Posted November 6, 2010 Don't forget the sunny side rip rap at all the bridges in the rivers and creeks. Wacky will do it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 9, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 9, 2010 Wayne, we caught the tournament big fish and my one keeper on the rip rap along the bank by one of the bridges. Partner lost a 6+ lady when his line snapped at the boat. He came in 4th and I came in 11th. Winning weight was only 6.2 pounds. We had a number of skunks. Thanks for the input to all. Sincerely appreciate it. Quote
Bigs Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 wow sounds like the fish were hiding out. I wuld expect someone to have at least caught a 10 pound limit this time of year. Thats too bad. At least you got out on the water on a somewhat nice day and got back to land safe. There was an 18 boat private tourney on the private side on sunday but I have no idea what they caught. I gave one guy fishing near my dock some tips but I dont think he took my advice. The fish are destroying senkos, grubs and shakey heads over here right now.If I wasnt still a lil sick I'd be out there looking for some hawgs. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 11, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 11, 2010 Hey, hope to fish the hot side with you after Thanksgiving. Hitting the Pamunkey for last club tournament on Sunday. Wife and I are heading to BPS for dinner and then to pick up a couple of double secret baits for Sunday. Take care. Quote

Carrington Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 that bait is probably a banjo minnow lol. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 13, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 13, 2010 Hey Carrington, try a Banjo minnow on a drop shot and see what happens. And yes, everything is "DOUBLE SECRET" when you are fishing. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Bigs Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Lake Anna Cup was tough yesterday. 71 teams and not too many weighed in. Winning weight was less then 16 pounds I think. Saw alot of 5-6 pounders brought in but most guys were weighing 8 pound limits. Seems like crankbaits in over 10 feet of water is the ticket. I been startin to get into deep water jiggin for schools of bass. Had a few nice convos with McCotter lately and he showed me exactly where the schools on the warm side are. He caught a 6-12 along with 30 other bass between 2-5 pounds on saturday on the warm side. Im going out with the great Dave Fauntelroy next week on my boat on the cold side. He's gonna be taking me out a few times actually even tho he doesnt guide anymore. My partner used to use his guide service many years ago.. So I guess I lucked out. He's gonna show me all the rockpiles, brush piles, humps, ledges, drop offs, etc..I'll mark them all and use them to fish the LAPR next year ;D Get ahold of me Sam so we can start doing the warm side tourneys. There was one here yesterday, looked like about a dozen boats. Looks like they were all bank beating too. These fish are in the middle of the lake schooled up chasin shad deep. Let's make it happen. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 16, 2010 Author Super User Posted November 16, 2010 Will PM you tonight. As for the Great Lake Anna Dave, he guided me many years ago on Anna. Very nice guy. I used to speak with him at the Richmond Fishing Expos when he was there hawking his guide services. Thanks and have fun and be safe with the Great Lake Anna Dave! Quote
Bigs Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I got out in the rain for a couple hours this morning on the warm side here. Decided to do nothing but look for structure holding fish on my lowrance. It was tough but I did find one spot in 14 feet of water that was holding a few dozen fish. I managed 5 fish, 3 on crankbaits and 2 on a pointer. Nothing to write home about. One was actually a decent sized crappie bout 11 inches. Gonna get back out there early tommorow and look for some better fish. I know there were some big ones down there but of course I caught the 1-2 pounders > Quote
Carrington Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 nothing wrong with catching 2 pounders, if i could catch a limit of 2 pounders up here id win the tournys. Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 And any day with fish in the boat is a good day..... Sounds like your still on the pattern too.... Quote
