Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 25, 2010 Super User Posted October 25, 2010 Just curious to see what you local guys down here are finding better right now. I'm hoping to get out to one of the local lakes around me on Saturday and want to try and make some plans. Where abouts are you guys finding fish right now? Still up under the grass or are they out in schools feeding? Appreciate it. Quote
GLADES Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I can tell you that the mid-afternoon bite is non-existent. I have been skunked on my last two trips to Lox and the Miami canal off of alligator alley. Lox can be that way sometimes. The Miami canal is was very disappointing. I can usually bag a few chunks from there. Nothing but garfish tangling my line in the branches this time. Generally, IMHO would say 6AM - 9AM, or night fishing is the best bet right now. Quote
SoFl-native Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 AM has been better for me too. The PM topwater bite hasnt come on until like 30 minutes before dark. Usually stays that way until we get some cold weather then afternoons get good. Quote
piscicidal Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I haven't been out enough, lately, to giving a statistically significant answer. I had one afternoon at Lox which was awesome (cloudy/windy). One afternoon trip to Miami canal was very poor (sunny/windy). We caught fish all day in the Ghost/Goblins tourney at Okeechobee (cloudy/slight breeze). That's basically my month of October, minus a couple treks to the golf course at night... Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted October 26, 2010 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted October 26, 2010 I find that the morning bite is better around the full moon and the afternoon bite on the new moon. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Fished Lake O Friday from 11 til sundown. I was catching fish all day out of thick mats. I didn't catch anything in the last hour when I switched to topwater (should have stuck with punching). Found one big girl that weighed 6lb 7oz. Most of the others were between 1.5 and 3lb, with one that went about 4lb. Fished the Alley this morning dawn til 1pm. Morning bite was slow, but it was there. After about 9am it was all about flippin and pitchin. I tried some crankin and spinners for a while with no luck (unless you count mudfish as luck). Everything I caught today was fairly small 1-2.5lbs. All in all I would say the fishing is good right now, with the morning bite geting a slight edge. The fish are there if you can get to them. Not my favorite way to fish but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Quote
The Guy Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 All of mine have come around the grass lately in the evening, with my work schedule that's the only time I really get to fish. They were schooling in my lake in around 6 FOW, but that was a month ago. These are all sub 3lb fish I can't seem to locate the bigger ones. Quote
frogflogger Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 There has been a good midday bite for the last several weeks it just takes patience to fish the thick stuff - we're fishing pads -- last sunday at the holey lands we had an 8 and 7 for big fish - yesterday 2 over 5, on both trips all caught between noon and 2 on frogs and swimbaits - there was a good article by Steve Waters of the ft. ldl. sunsentinel a week or so ago about how the big bass hunt the pads at midday down here and that has been my experience every where for many years Quote
piscicidal Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I fished Okeechobee yesterday and pretty much caught fish from 7:00 until I left at 3:00. I would guess I caught at least 40...The bite was a little faster in the morning, but the size got better later in the day. My two biggest fish were caught between 2-3 (one 3lbs, one 4lbs). I dropped a toad (+6) off next to the boat during that same one hour span. Quote

Found a cut that had fish just stacked...shad were so thick in that cut you could have practically walked over them. Gonna try and get out Saturday afternoon to lox.... Quote
