vaparrothead Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Today at about 3pm caught this 6 lb hog. I think he's old and on his last hours. Didn't fight hard coming in; felt more like a log or big turtle until he jumped once. As I let him go he didn't splash going away; just sat there for a few seconds and slowly swam away. Second largest LM I've caught and the biggest by myself (biggest was with guide at Lake Anna) Quote
MrWrinkle Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Nice fish! I've always had a hard time at Mercer -- ~3lbs is the best bass I've had there. I'm sure there are big fish there though. Certainly are tons of bait fish, and a lot of cover up by the stumps. (Slightly off-point: I spoke to a guy once that claimed he caught a 40lb blue cat in there... but I'm skeptical...) Quote
rondef Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Congrats, thats a nice hawg you got there. That lake has some big fish in it. I have caught 4 over 5lbs there and 2 over 6lbs. That lake should be getting really active because the bass are beginning the fall feed. Here is a 6lb 8oz I caught a few years ago at Mercer. Quote
mudkart Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Congrats! I've fished that manhole spot alot in the past but have not been to Mercer this year. Mercer was on my list today but I chose a different local spot. No 6 #er for me though. Again, nice! Quote
basscrusher Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 get your scales checked...that is no 6 pounder Quote
B-Dozer Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 get your scales checked...that is no 6 pounder That's including the manhole cover! ;D Quote
A.Do? Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 get your scales checked...that is no 6 pounder Is that really necessary? I believe he uses an xtools scale, which IMO is pretty accurate. In any case, you should keep those kinds of comments to yourself. Nice fish buddy! We really need to get out this season. Let me know when you're available next and I'll try and make time. Quote

Bigbarge50 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Anyone have a good idea what the rains this week will do to the bite at Mercer, Huntsman, and Burke? Quote
