Attaching trailer hooks to spinnerbaits?

I got a couple of packs of Gamakatsu trailer hooks.  Dumb question - do you snip off a piece of the rubber tube that comes with them and slide that on the main hook after you put the trailer hook on?

Yes. But some people slip the rubber over the trailer hook's eye and stick the main hook through that. But I prefer a free-swinging hook and that is also recommended by many pros.

Yes. If it does not fit the hook then (It slips off the barb) then hook it through the rubber.

What I do is take a small piece of the tube, and I put the hook into the side of the tubeing so the piece of tubeing will not move. If you slide the piece of tube on the hook you may loose the tube and trailer hook.

The best way that I have found so far is to throw the tube away that comes with the hooks and buy a pack of jig skirt collars  $2 for 100 of them.  Put the hook on the spinnerbait and slide the collar on after it.  the collar is held much better by the barb as opposed to the stock tubing which is too big.

OK, I got them on.  I snipped the tube into 5 equal lenghts and slipped them on the main hook after I put the trailer on.  The barb keeps it from sliding off.  I'll try this and see if it works well before I try another method.  Thanks, folks.

I use a hole punch and punch out plastic disks.  They are free and the hook makes the hole so nothing slips.
