TOBYJOE Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Does anybody think I could take my 40hp tiller handle merc off my 16ft alumcraft jon boat and stick a newer 60hp tiller handle yamaha on there. I checked the weight of the newer engine and its only 15lbs heaver than the older one I have now. I know it be excessive with the power but but......I really wanna see what it'll do on there! lol. Just let me know if anybody has ever done this before. Quote
GLADES Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 You should never put an engine larger than what the hull is rated for on a boat. A 60 HP tiller under the best of conditions will be real squirrely Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 7, 2010 Super User Posted September 7, 2010 Sure you can if you want to join the club of the deceased that had the famous last words, "Hey, watch this" Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 7, 2010 Super User Posted September 7, 2010 WHAT'S THE HP RATING ALLOWED FOR YOUR BOAT ? You put anything bigger than that on it , you're just living on the edge. Quote
