Yum and Gulp...

I'm sure this has been dicussed before, but couldnt find it through the search option. I use Berkley gulp and think it works. I have been contemplating whether or not to get some YUM baits. Is either one really better? One says it outfishes all other bait and the other says only live bait works better. One reason i have not used YUM is because they claim that salt attracts fish... i always though it was for weight. I like scented baits so that i have more time to set the hook after they bite. Knowing me, i need all the time i can get! ;D I'm interested in using YUM as much as i use gulp. Any other bait recommendations are appreciated. There are way too many choices when it comes to choosing baits...

I prefer both at different time.  I really like the gulp sinking worms.  I think the taste would have a major impact when fishing worms.  I also use Yum Dingers(senko impression) which work really well.  The Yum baits are going to be much softer than the gulp (plus and minus).  My favorite YUM bait is the houdini shad.  I would definatley try the YUM if you never have before.

i havent used gulp much but YUM is my favorite brand of soft plastics, i like the idea of the LPT even thought im not sure if its true or not. i use several of thir products and all catch jsut as many as my uncle who uses gulp alot. Either way im sure both will bring fish in the boat, probably jus talot of personal preference

I have used both and they are both good baits. I like the gulp minnow grubs. Both have better baits then the other.

I would definitely recommend purchasing some YUM baits.  I'm a big fan of the Vibra King Tube and the Yum Chunk.  I've heard fantastic things about the Muy grub.  Great product.

I've had some good luck with the yum dinger: gulp I've only tried once so I really can not form an opinion yet.

Yum baits rock. For bass, most of the time it's the action and the profile of the bait, and not the scent, that determines if you'll get bit or not. However, scent does cause them to hold onto the bait a bit longer, though they will still spit it.

I have not used gulp yet, but I do love Yum's baits. My favorite is probably their 4" tube.

Lures will outfish bait often, but when the situation calls for bait, any scented bait usually doesn't come close to catching what the real thing can. There is no substitute for the real thing when it's needed.

Thanks guys, i will have to pick up some YUM baits next time i go to the shop. I know scent isnt the main reason for a fish to bite, but i like how a fish might hold on longer. One more question, does the salt really help with anything? Thanks again for all of the help and advice!

Am still trying to figure out why these manufacturers try to push the salt as an attractant? :-?

IMO its a gimmick, salt helps control the action,sink rate,and weight of the plastic.

That being said I dont like gulp at all for bass.Where do I begin on the negatives?Try to check for posts on gulp and you may find many negative things being said.

Yum baits are by far one of my best brands,but they need to stop putting salt on the outside of the baits

I have tried some of the Gulp products but have had little success.  I do like some of Berkley's Powerbaits though.  

I am a bigger fan of Yum.  I like their lizards and the especially the Yum Dinger.

Ok thanks, i was wondering why salt was on the outside of the baits. To me it seemed like it would be gone as soon as it hit the water. Salt impregnation i get, because senkos have salt for weight which is something i understand. I like gulp, it works where i fish, and it gives me time to take a bite out of my sandwich, then set the hook! Haha, just kidding, setting the hook comes first, even if i lose the sandwich. Sandwich as chum maybe?

I really like the YUM Dinger and have caught many quality fish on them.  I also like to use the craw papi as a jig trailer.

I haven't really used Yum yet, but I've had a lot of experience w/ Gulp minnow grubs and i love them. something about the waters i fish maybe, but the bass up here seem to love them.

I've wondered about the salt "attractant"too.I as a rule use plastics that feel the softest to me.Most of them are salt impregnated,and have salt on the outside.I wonder sometimes how much of that is snake-oil salesmanship.

I've even dipped baits in Epsom and Kosher salt to see if it made any differance,I haven't noticed any yet.

Anyhow I use Yum Chuncks as a trailer on jigs all the time.I have not tried any Gulp stuff

one of my go to baits us a 7" yum ribbontail worm. i have alot of confidence in yum and zoom. i do like berkley powerworms but not so much confidence in gulp.

I think there's waaay too much emphasis placed on scent.

I use a lot of YUM soft plastics, but as far as I'm concerned they can save the LPT (live prey technology).

As for Gulp, I have trouble differentiating between a Gulp product and a backed up septic system ;D
