racer894 Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 do any of you guys ever fish in the west end are or just in midlothian I'm interested in fishing the west end area after joining this forum! Quote

grayAG Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 > That doesn't make any sense, cause they actually stock that pond. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 6, 2010 Super User Posted July 6, 2010 grayAG, There are lots of places to fish in the West End of Richmond. Get the free 2010 Fishing in Virginia booklet from DG&IF at Walmart and look in the back section for a list of the places to fish. I took a weekday off from work about three years ago and fished all of the places in your area listed in the book. I was surprised at the locations and how nice some of them are. I had no idea they were there. There are some nice ponds around apartment complexes both above and below the I-295, too. Check out the Twin Hickory ponds. There is also a pond off Staples Mill Road right after you go under I-64 heading north. The apartment complex is on your left. I don't think it is fished very much, if at all, and I have always wondered about trying my luck on this body of water. Try your luck at Innsbrook, too. Hit the pond by the office buildings off Cox Road and then go back to Lake Rooty. I do not care for Rooty but some of the guys have done well there. Be sure to have a valid Virginia fishing license as some of the waters are patrolled. And don't forget your needle nose pliers. Get an ADC mapbook of Greater Richmond and you can see many lakes and ponds sprinkled throughout the area. We have a number of guys who fish on your side of the river and maybe you can catch up with some of them and go to their favorite ponds and lakes to fish. Take care. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 I have fished that place plenty, never caught a thing out of there! I think there is a spring in the lake that feeds it, because it is always murky. Quote
grayAG Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Sam- I was saying that the 'no fishing' signs don't make sense, not the West End fishing. I already have the VDGIF booklet and have hit some of the spots. I'll have to try some of the ones you mention. Where is Twin Hickory? Thanks. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 Gray, that makes sense. Twin Hickory is on the other side of I-295 and Innsbrook. You go out Nuckols Road on the north side of I-295 and turn left onto Twin Hickory Road. There are a few ponds on the property. Nice lake in Wyndham, too. I want to fish it but have not had the chance to go back since I helped them with their insurance two years ago. There are ponds on the two Country Club of Virginia golf courses off Daniels Road and I want to try them when the course is closed. You may want to try your luck with them as I hear they have some nice bass in them. Take River Road to Gaskins Road and then onto James River Golf Course Road for the first one and bear right onto Daniels Road off Gaskins past the James River Golf Course Road and you will go right through the second course. Have you tried Youngers Pond in Bryan Park? And how about the pond in the cemetery where Route 288 crosses Route 6 (Patterson Avenue)? There is a pond in that cemetery that I would love to fish to see if anything worthwhile is in it. Place is Greenwood Memorial Gardens and it is supposed to have one big and one small pond. Lots of places to fish north of the James. Get that ADC mapbook of Greater Richmond and look for all the ponds and lakes sprinkled throughout the area. PM me on how you do. Quote
racer894 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 I really want to try some of these West End ponds one day if it cools off enough to go. It sounds like many of them are better to fish off hours/on weekends due to business operations and their location. I am just worried about getting in trouble for fishing in some of these locations with trespassing and such. : Quote
grayAG Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 racer894 and pspbass- I stopped by Grove Pond last night and the signs out there only say "Do Not Feed The Geese". They don't have "No Fishing" on them. Sam- Thanks for all the info. I can't really go out to those ponds now, but I will definitely try them sometime. Quote
grayAG Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Heading out to Grove Pond tonight if anyone wants to stop by. Quote

Reel_Kaotic Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Are you able to put in a small boat? If so, where at? I'm familiar with the area, I frequently fish swift creek lake. Quote
racer894 Posted August 10, 2010 Author Posted August 10, 2010 Went to Enclave tonight with my dad. I caught 2 bass and lost 2. One was REALLY nice and waited till I pulled the bait out the water to strike. > My dad had one on and was fighting with it until it snapped his line, it was a VERY nice one. Quote
