racer894 Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Anyone ever fished here? Its right across for the Mid-lothian Mines Park, a Chesterfield County park...I fish here all the time. Always can catch nice catfish there (3-5lb) also caught a few good bass all from the bridge in the back of the pond. If you havent been its a pretty nice place...Paved trail all the way around. You can park on the right side of the apartments and walk down to it. Its right down Wooldridge Road off Midlothian. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 Nope, but there are lots of great apartment and office complex ponds all over the greater Richmond geographical area. Keep fishing them and sending in those reports. Quote
grayAG Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I go to this pond all the time. Usually small beetle-spins,grubs, topwaters or worms work well. most of my bass come from near the bank by the 1st dock(looking from Woolridge Rd) . don't think ive caught anything by the bridge. What lures do you use there? Quote
racer894 Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 For the catfish I use bread and a hook, let it sit for a min or 2 then the cork disappears! For the bass, I use swimming shad. They are called "Mister Shad" http://www.mistertwister.com/information/mister-shad/800#description I have never fished that dock up there. Where are you casting to catch bass, and whats the best you have pulled out of there? Quote
grayAG Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 You can either cast from the straight bank to the dock area, or cast on the dock out towards the bank. Small grubs work great in that spot. Most of the good bass ive caught are about 14-16 inches. One time though, I caught a bigger one accidentally. i was fly-fishing from the dock and put my rod down. The line went through the cracks and a fish grabbed the fly. It was definitely larger than the other ones, but i had to cut the line because i couldn't get to it. it was probably the one big fish that doesn't get caught often. Quote
Tallent88 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 very very nice pond scenery nice cover i went to dicks sporting good and bought my first bait caster today and i went there to get the hang of casting it i caught two 1 pounders about 12 inches in length both on whit spinner bait near 1st dock to the left i only casted about 10 times i was just dropping by to cast a couple times i had to get home b4 it got to late but lots of pond to fish i will be going back tomm or thursday ;D Quote
racer894 Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 I will be there tomorrow more than likely to wet a line at the dock and try my luck! I am getting into fishing more, kinda a newbie. Anyways, have you seen any snakes here? I saw the biggest one I have ever seen in the wild last time I was there! I just let it be. Also, there are an abundance of turtles and bream. It would be easy to get a net full of them if anyone wanted baitfish. Quote

racer894 Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 hey pspbass, the pics you posted dont look like around the pond at the enclave apartments. Are you fishin the bigger red circled pond or the one across the street in the grove subdivision circled in blue? Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 I may try my luck at the pond later this afternoon. Let me know if you will be around the area. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 Wife and I are heading to Pops Marina in Toano this PM to see what they have left from their going out of business sale and to check out Fishing Pro Tech and Hooters. Tomorrow (Thursday) I have late meetings with Cigna Insurance Company on a client's renewal and Friday we are going to dinner with my fishing buddy and his family so if I hit these ponds it will be either over the weekend or next week. Just wanted you guys who fish it know as I will not be out there to meet you. Quote
racer894 Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 I went this morning, didnt catch anything, got one hit back by the bridge. I was only there about 30 mins. I went exploring after that across the street (Wooldridge)to the Grove, there is a pond over there on the right that has a fountain in the middle and a a dock and a gazebo that overlook the pond. Looks like it can be fished all around it, and the only sign I saw was dont feed the geese. Also, down Midlothian behind Fridays, Famous Daves (before you get to Tackle Express) there is a pond but it is overgrown as I found out, at least what I saw of it Quote
grayAG Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Nice pics! I had no idea the cats could be that big! I'm actually going there tonight. The pond in the Grove has good #'s of crappie and bluegill, but i don't think it has many good bass. Quote

Got a few hits but couldn't catch anything. We should exchange #'s or something so we can better plan when we are gonna be fishin and meet up. If you want you can shoot me a message with yours. Quote
