GLADES Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I am planning on fishing the O on Monday. I have not been out there since February. Anyone have any Intel to share so I don't have to burn up a lot of fuel? Thanks. Quote
salmicropterus Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Fish have definitely moved to the outside or to pools just on the inside of the main grass lines. They are schooling and if you catch 1 or 2 I'd probe the area cause you might catch 10-20. Look for shad and birds. Areas on West Wall and East Wall have been productive. Hope this helps Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Thank you! I have a tournament the middle of June. (Law Enforcement/Firefighter Olympic's) I've never fished Lk Okeechobee and looking forward to it. Any other tips would be greatly welcome. Quote
gar-tracker Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I'm fishing that tournament as well, what salmicropterus said is dead on. I caught about 50 fish up north last weekend, schoolers I counted 15 consecutive casts with a fish in the 2-to 3 lb range. Be careful the Lakes dropping like mad. Quote
bocabasser Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 fished the lake yesterday and caught over 100 fish. put in at belle glade at 8 and pulled out at 8. longest day on that lake for me. got caught in a brutal storm in the monkey box for about an hour. caught fish everywhere, but north is the ticket. there was a nasty green funk at pelican, longpoint and ritta. if iwere to fish south, i would go further back from the outside line and find those pockets where the water is cleaner. caught a 3 pounder swimmin a big easy. didn't like the water so we left. i am not sure what it is called (bay bottom?), but it is the area between long point and ritta. caught a mess of small ones on the outside line. had lunch at rolands and headed north. fished that eel grass just north of uncle joes and whacked em on a lipless. rippin it through the grass. biggest 3 pounds. tried carolina rig, dippers, big easy and it was slow. fished outside of cochrans and caught a couple of small ones. lots of gulping mullet. went to monkey box and instantly started catching them. spinnerbait, big esy, dipper. there was a storm coming and we could not out run it, so we geared up and took it. sounded like a tornado/train coming right at you. amazing! at 5 we chose to leave and take the lake. we got worked. just outside that spot where we crushed them on a trap, we saw tons of shad just being lit up. we stopped and worked that area and got one 2 pounder. drifted closer and all of the sudden it was on! for the next hour we caught easily 50 fish. everything worked. dippers, hornys, speed worms. it was crazy. biggest fish was close to 5, but we caught 2-3 pounders what seemed to be every cast. left there at 745 and made it back to slims just at dark. great day. I was worried about the lake levels too, thanks for the heads up. Thanks for the info Bocabasser, that storm was scary even up here, I would have hated being out on that lake in it. Glad y'all came out of okay and in the middle of those schools. Quote
GLADES Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 Thanks for the info Bruce. You guys had a dream day out there. I will definitely be looking for the clean water and bait. Quote
GLADES Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 The lake O trip fell through so I fished the Miami Canal north off of the alley this morning. My brother and I tore them up with wat/purple trick worms. We caught over 50 in 3 hours. Most of the bass were 2-4 lbs. The bass were fighting excellent today. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 1, 2010 Super User Posted June 1, 2010 Sounds like you had a great day. The fish have been super active lately. Best part, the solar chart in Bass Master magazine said today was going to be one of the worst days of the month...yeah. I caught a bunch myself, my arms are still sore. Quote
