utahbasser Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 i just got my shipment of chatterbaits in, and i was wondring if anyone throws them with trailer hooks. i was thinking about trying it and was thinking what everyone else would think. let me know if its a good idea or a bad idea Quote
BassinBoy Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Buy some and always keep them with you if the bass are short striking it. They will be useful if they are. Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 3, 2008 Super User Posted April 3, 2008 I use trailer hooks on my spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and Chatterbait-style lures. With all three lures, the majority of the fish have the main hook, but there are just enough caught on the trailer hook for me to want to use them. Without them I lack confidence. 1 Quote
HesterIsGod Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 This is what I do about 50 percent of the time. I take a treble hook and cut off one of the three barbs. Then I thread on a plastic trailer of my choice and before I thread it on all the way I put on the treble hook, and then thread the rest of the soft plastic on. It does not hang up as much because the bottom barb is gone and it stays on there well. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I throw the 1/2oz Chatters and always have a trailer attached Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I through 1/2oz Chatters and always have a trailer attached x2 Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I've never used a trailer hook on a chatterbait, but rest assured, after this thread, I will be using them 8-) Quote
LandingLunkers Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 I was not sure if I should use a trailer hook on my chatterbaits or not, but now I will. Thanks! Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted April 1, 2020 Super User Posted April 1, 2020 No Trailer hook on this one for me. I'd be pulling grass & weed off it continuously I think. A-Jay 2 Quote
