Shane Procell Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Finally after 11 years in south Florida I hit the sawgrass bass flats. I was accompanied by an old friend Dan and his partner Jason. They are the creators of J.D's Custom Baits. Check out the size of these worms  I felt like I was pulling a snake out of a sack each time I needed to swap a worm. I had to gear up for this area...lined up to 40# braid. Glad I had it cause just about every cast was coming through the razor sharp sawgrass, and each bass I caught was running around the sawgrass stalks. I was freakin wild! The baits are hand poured and are constructed of heavy rubber like a offshore bait. They eventually wear out but 20x's more durable than a store bought worm. I'am used to the confined fish bowl in the southern portion of the glades....so this was super cool! Not near as many fish but a wonderful experience. Quote
pinesangleroff178th Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I've been out in the sawgrass flats and definitely agree it is a blast! Do you primarily fish those monster worms on top to mimic a snake moving across the surface? Things are huge! Quote
Shane Procell Posted May 2, 2010 Author Posted May 2, 2010 Yes we were fishing them like a snake. We were in 2-3 ft of water all day. It was cool using 40# braid cause you could rip it out of any snags. Quote
gar-tracker Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 When the waters low sink those 13 inch worms in the canals out there you'll catch some Hawgs. Those look like the Old Charlies 13 inch paddle tails, we used to fish them all the time out there. Those Glades fish love them, I'm convinced they eat more snakes then the fish up at the lake, Iv thrown those big worms at Okeechobee till my arm was going to fall off without a hit. Quote
