Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 The P's are definitely waking up again here in my neck of the woods. Seeing lots of them cruising the banks in schools again. As I was on the dock a few minutes ago tossing a craw around I saw one that would probably have pushed close to the state record cruise by. It was by far the largest I've ever seen. It probably could have swallowed the 5 pounder I caught last year. Looks like I may need to wake up early and start working some prop baits again... Quote
kiko13 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Glad to hear it....did many get killed off? My buddy who lives on Sunset Lakes said he saw a few floaters after the cold weather. My brother lives on Monaco and he did not see any floaters. Ernie Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 27, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 27, 2010 I had none die in my lake. I saw one floating Bluegill and one Mayan after the cold. I know just a few miles north there were tons of them floating though. There was definitely a line drawn across the counties where the most fish were killed. Anything north of the southern edge of Alligator Alley had ridiculous amounts of dead fish from what I've heard. I was fishing in Sunset Lakes last week and didn't see a single Peacock in the lake though. Not sure how many were there to start with though. Quote
I.rar Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 seen a couple at the lake around my house and seen school of em at wolf lake in davie. still havnt caught one this year though. : Quote
pinesangleroff178th Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I'm starting seing them also SoFlaBassAddict and even caught a couple at the boater's park on Pembroke Rd. and 178th even though they were no more than 2 Lbs was still a hell of a fight. Speaking of huge fish I wish I could get the picture of the peacock I caught last year off my broken cell phone as it was easily in the 6.5 - 7.5 Lb range. Here is the bink map where I landed the monster from and since I caught and released it nearly 9 months ago and hoping no one did the opposite there is an even bigger monster in that lake now. http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/#/25xghtlf9st2tj3w Quote
I.rar Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 nice. i still cant get over the amount of lakes in broward compared to down here in south miami. you guys are spoiled . Quote

Yes, yes we are. Unfortunatley it wasn't a free upgrade on the house Nailed two more 4-5 pound males today that were sitting on beds with females. 20" + fish. They absolutely destroyed the rage lobster I was using. The bait wouldn't even hang on the hook afterwards. I had to remelt it back together. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 28, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 28, 2010 Caught a couple more smaller fish today just before the sun went down. Nailed a huge fish...then he proceeded to break me off using 30 lb braid.... Needless to say I didn't expect that to happen. Only picture I actually thought to take was of the small one of the day. YNCBASSMAN Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 awesome!! i've only caught a handful of peas, the biggest being about 2 lbs. it shook off when i landed it and the hook went in my thumb. i'm hoping i get a chance to try for some more!! Quote
salmicropterus Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I am seeing and hearing the same thing though I have not been targeting them as yet (my summer fun!). The death line seems to be the Alley but I have some credible reports of catches in the Margate system. Sad to say though, not hearing anything good from Palm Beach County Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I'm in Palm Beach County and I haven't seen anything here, not in south county either. Not a good sign, but I'm sure they'll make their way back. I just have to figure out how to catch them and where to go. Quote
R61 Ranger Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I spent Thanksgiving to Christmas in Miami and got into some nice Peacock Bass, I was told that the winter was really rough on them. Quote

Very Rough indeed. The buzzards didn't mind at all though. ;D Those were some happy birds. Loads of fish to eat. And even more iguanas for them to eat. CB Smith Park looked like a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds" for a while. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 1, 2010 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2010 Water temps up to 82.X today. Peacocks on beds left and right. Several that are guarding fry, some just getting onto the beds. Others that were cruising the banks in male/female pairs. Largemouth aren't on beds anymore, they're starting to school up and swim around now. Theres still a couple here and there though. Just don't catch the second fish off the bed if you do bed fish. They're so aggressive they don't care about the other fish being gone. Gotta leave one to guard the nest at least. Slow cranking a bluegill colored spinnerbait was the weapon of choice today in the shallows blind casting to bedding areas. Quote
