Has anyone noticed them on their beds yet, water should do right much warming this week with the high temps I believe. I was thinking about going to the Pamunkey or the Chick but havent decided yet. Aluma-Bass Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 at sandy ive seen a few on the beds but didnt want anything i threw at them...i may give briery a shot this weekend since i havent been this year! Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 28, 2010 Super User Posted April 28, 2010 Should be a great weekend to go fishing in Virginia. Go out and give it a shot. Quote
Bigs Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 They are bedding pretty much everywhere by now. I was at a local pond yesterday and spent over an hour tryin to catch one particular female on a bed. The male was right there too, I ended up catching him but no luck with the 4+ pound female. If I can get my new trolling motor on in time then Im gonna do some serious fishing this weekend. Just dunno how Im gonna decide where to go with so many great spots on the potomac. Quote
Red Bear Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 headed to Smith Mountain Lake this weekend. leaving early friday morning and coming back sunday. probably wont fish sunday as ill be preparing to leave, but i still got friday and saturday. i hear the alewives and such are moving in to shallow water and coves to spawn and drawing in bass, catfish and stripers. so that will be good for my all nighters on the dock. but i also plan to get out and troll for some stripers. with my luck i will only catch stripers 26-36 inches and have to throw them back lol, slot limit doesnt end till after may, then you can keep all sizes. should be a beautiful weekend to go fishing in VA as Sam stated Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 plans have changed....think me and few buddies are going to pull a float from landing to landing on the upper james and camp out on a island and wake up early sunday morning and fish for smallies all day!!! about a 12-14mi float 8-) Quote

Super User Dan: Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 KBF folks are raiding the James this weekend. i shouldnt have to worry bout that, ill be on the UPPER james so will they! Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 do you know what section of the upper james they will be on? and what is the KBF Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 looks like they are fishing bremo bluff to columbia, i will be a few landings down river from them so i wont see them...im going from west view to maidens. But Bremo Bluff float is awsome thats where most of the nicer smallies come from in this area. They will have a blast! River looks great crossed over bridge today on the way to work! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 good luck to both groups! I'd love to hear a report! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 I wish I could go, unfortunately, I have other engagements: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1272502647/0#0. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 John, what's the deal with KBF? It seems like A LOT of those guys are from VA Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 The site owner is from VA, and for whatever reason, there are a lot of FW kayakers in VA. Up here, you say "kayak fishing," and 99% that know what you're talking about will be coastal anglers. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 In fact, my buddy Wade has this to welcome any new VA people, LOL. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 ahahaha. I guess we do have a lot of nice kayaking rivers and a lot of the population lives in areas that make kayaks more logical than boats. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 A lot of guys down there equate kayak fishing to river fishing. I don't fish any rivers up here with a kayak. Most of my boats suck in current, anyway. Quote
s13john Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 wow thats right in my neck of the woods ... maybe i should break out my old kayak. ;D ;D went to sandy today saw some on beds but it was super windy and i was mostly just playing around with new toys Quote
