flippin4it. Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 aren't the Ashburn Village lakes private? no, public... Ashburn Village will have you arrested for trespassing, they are private. It is posted and the "pond police" can, will and do make sure of it. Beaverdam Reservoir is different than Beaverdam Creek Reservoir. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I used to live in Ashburn Village, then I moved and my sister lived there for a while, so I fished those lakes a lot... Since then, I have been run off several times, but this is the first I've heard of an arrest... That totally sucks. That sports pavilion pond has some nice fish in it. 5 and 6 pounders, and this was two or three years ago. Quote
flippin4it. Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Avalon, it does suck. But they had a problem with people of all types keeping anything and everything, so in that respect I can see where they are coming from. I think that they are harsh with me more so because of what I look like and I am a bit abrassive........ Quote

Yea, I've found that the way you look makes a big difference...there are some ponds here in richmond near a nice office park. These ponds are surrounded by tech companies and I was asked to leave when wearing shorts and a t-shirt...when I fished one time after work (dress shirt, khaki's and dress shoes) the same guy who asked me to leave the first time walked right by me... flippin4it. Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I guess BDU's , Harley tee shirt and a gotee to boot did'nt help. It's not like a rolled up on my Shovelhead, slinging beer bottles, firing off lewd jestures and yelling at the tramp I brought with me to put her top back on..............I just parked the Bronco and snuck ever so silently over to the pond and started fishing..........I even smiled. Paul Naj Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I propose a collection for a new wardrobe for flippin4it. Some LL Bean shirts and shorts and a nice pair of Sperry topsiders should do the trick! ;D I was out on the reservoir on Thursday. On my 4th or 5th cast I got a nice 3 pounder on a buzzbait and that was the last topwater bite I got. Being as stubborn as I am it took me an hour or so to be convinced of that. Ended up with 5 fish between 1.5 and that 3 pounder and a few other hits mostly on soft jerkbaits. I finally found a pattern late in the morning that included shoreline near small clumps of weeds and shade. Quote
Teamdonzi Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Thanks for the link, thats a great site. Might try and hook up and fish with Mr Pacemaker. I got some new reels, new line and some new soft plastics, so I am off to the Ashburn pond, the one with the island in the middle. I'm off. Quote

Paul Naj Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Trev, we need to get one of those pics with the guy fishing with the spinning reel upside down. It's an instant classic in the making. Quote
Trevor in Burke Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I would... but... Rob would take me out on the boat just to throw me out of the boat, literally. ;D Quote
Hung up Paul Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 As long as you have your pfd, it might still be worth the trouble. Quote

Pikesnogle Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 aren't the Ashburn Village lakes private? no, public... No, I just checked to make sure. Only residents of Ashburn Village and their guests are allowed to fish there and the resident has to be there with you and has to have a fishing license and recreation ID card from Ashburn Village. oh..well ive been going there for 3 years no problems soo.... I have also been going there for a while, never had any problems there. Be courteous and I don't think that you will any problems either. However in regards to the Reservoir, if you haven't you should check out the access off of "Alford Rd." Bit of a long walk to get to the water but it's a kick *** spot. Turn left as you get to the water, it's about a 1/2 mile walk but there are two feeder creeks that enter in a little cove and the fishing is AWESOME there. Spinners, crankbaits, and jigs. -Snogle Quote

Red Bear Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I've seen a Jon boat in there before but you'll have to carry it to the Resevoir. I don't believe there's any launching places I've seen from Mt Hope or the other side. Mt Hope has a bigger parking spot so you should be able to fit it there. could i drop a jon boat in there at the end of mt hope road? and anywhere to leave my trailer and jeep while i'm fishing? thanks. tight lines if im correct there was an actual boat launch on the reservoir road side thats still there, but i could be wrong. the problem is you cant back your boat down to it. but you can put a boat in much easier on the reservoir road side so long as you can get it back there, its real opened up at the water without a lot of trees and clear section of shoreline. some guys were able to take the jon boat off the trailer, roll the trailer under the gate blocking you from driving near the water and put the boat back on and roll it down there and then chained the trailer to a tree while they went out. parking is real limited no matter where you go there. i remember the 80s as a kid, you could drive right along side the water... also ive been wanting to try the alford road spot, but havent been there in awhile...also, has anyone actually been able to get to the goose creek reservoir right down the road from beaverdam creek reservoir? i think it got closed off long time ago Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 Red Bear, have you been to the Mt. Hope launch recently? They cleared a lot of brush and the big boulders that were there and put in a mulch/dirt type ramp. You could easily launch a jon from there as long as you can carry it a few feet. Quote

Super User Dan: Posted April 27, 2010 Super User Posted April 27, 2010 I dunno. I'm kind of on the fence. I'd like to see something like a rental place pop up but I'm sure that the lack of facilities contributes to the relatively few poachers, light traffic, and small amounts of trash at the reservoir. The new Mt. Hope area is a BIG improvement for launching small craft. Quote
basscrusher Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 In the case of Beaverdam, facilities would help clean the place up. For those that don't know, a decent number of "undesirables" and wannabe gang thugs hang around the Reservior Rd launch and the catwalk by the dam. Some VDGIF officials I spoke to have noticed that in such cases, making the area more public increases the "spotlight" on any shady activities and thus tends to keep the place neater. my guess is it would be a tradeoff. We'd see more used fishing line laying around, but fewer campfire remains and broken Corona bottles. But, nobody has any plans to change any of this right now, so I don't see it happening for some time. Quote
steveb1 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 The current situation at Beaverdam is unlikely to change, and as far as I am concerned that is great news. The reason for the current state is Beaverdam Creek Resevoir is owned by Fairfax county and Fairfax has no interest in improving a facility for Loudoun county residents. Loudoun county on the other hand will not improve property that they do not own. A wonderful catch 22, that gives us this fantastic hidden treasure. A little bit of trash (which I try to pick up a bit on each visit), is preferable to having the place overrun by hoards of people. Which would happen, if it was improved into a park. Quote
