dauberangler Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Went out last week and had a pretty good day. The hardest part was catching the darn bait. All in all we got 2 stripers and 13 catfish. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 nice! did ya keep the stripers? Quote
A.Do? Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Nice!!! If you don't mind me asking, what part of the potomac? Quote
dauberangler Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Dan, i just fish for fun even though those stripers come in from the ocean to spawn i just feel bad keeping it. If and when i get a chance to go deep sea fishing this year i will def keep some fish. A.Do, im not exactly sure where, but i do remember where we launched from and i think i could possibility get within a couple hundred ft of where we were. We went out again a few days after on another friends boat but caught only catfish. Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Nice fish! What did you guys use for bait? Quote
kiko13 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 If you are in the Potomac above the 301 bridge, you cannot keep a striper until after May 16. Nice fish just the same.... Ernie Quote

Ernie but the season opened below the 301 bridge this past weekend, right? I spent about 30 minutes bouncing around between the VDGIF, the MD DNR, the VMRC, and the PRFC websites before I found the regulations...I wish they would publish a color coded map or something! kiko13 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 but the season opened below the 301 bridge this past weekend, right? Correct....PRFC is the best place to get info. When you get their boat license, they send you a nice chart. Not quite color coordinated but informative. Also, barbless hooks are required during the Closed Season (NOW). http://www.prfc.state.va.us/sports/BLUE_SHEET_2010.pdf 2010 "Sport Fishing in the Tidal PotomacRiver". Ernie Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 yep, that's the document I ended up finding. I started at the VDGIF which referred me to the VRMC which finally referred me to the PRFC! Quote
Bigs Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Is that Gabe holding that massive striper ? Dang Gabe finally got on some big fish if it his him. Quote
dauberangler Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 LOL yea thats Uber, that was my first catch of the year. Been bass fishing 6 times in the past month and only caught one little bass If i remember correctly that day we went my buddy said you cant keep any stripers so you guys are right. They have very strict rules on those fish. We used 30lb braid with 30lb big game leader, gammi 5/0 hook and a 3 oz weight with fresh shad as bait. Quote

wvuwhat Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Nice hogs. I'm pathetic when I've gone out to Algonkian park on the P-mac. Last two times I've only brought in 2 smallies about a pound each. I need to know your secret. Besides the obvious having a boat. Quote

I'm sure you remember, but just a little reminder, you gave me some nice advice on this forum on buying the boat I eventually ended up with. I took the "new to me" bass boat out for a couple of shake out runs, and it turns out it needed new rectifiers for the charging circuit (wouldn't recharge the batteries), and the lower unit had a very minor leak that I decided to go ahead and fix. The mechanic talked me into replacing the water impeller. He told me that since they have the lower unit off anyway to fix the leak, the water impeller is easy and cheap to take care of, and you never know when its going to go. There's a 50/50 chance they will have it ready before this weekend. If not, then it will definately be ready for next weekend. I'll pm you when I know the boat is ready, and hopefully we can get together on the Potomac. Quote
