I was just wondering how long (Minutes)you guys will fish a lure before you decide to switch to something else if nothing is biting, and do you try a different color before switching lures? I just wanted to hear everyones opinions to see if I might be sticking to something too long that just isnt going to work.

Thanks!

I'm not the most patient guy, so I'll change faster than many others do. But a major factor is whether I'm covering water or fishing a specific area.  If I'm covering water, I'll generally stick with the lure for one full pass, barring extenuating circumstances.

I usually don't change colors with the same lure because of my (unproven) belief that most of the time if they won't take it, they won't take another color either. But you have to go with your gut and what your degree of confidence is in what you're doing.

I really don't have a set amount of time to fish one lure,I kinda just go with my gut after awhile. Some days I may throw a lure for 10 minutes and switch and other times I may fish it for hours. It just depends on how confident I am in my selection that day.

If I'm throwing a lure(a worm for example) and I'm just getting the tail nipped than I sometimes switch colors to see if the fish take it better or I'll go to a shorter worm in the same color.

After I get a pattern down of where the bass are hanging and all of a sudden that bait stop working on that pattern I'll change baits and try to find out what changed.

If I knew the answer to this question I'd be Angler of the Year!

I just do what I feels is right at the time  ;)

If I don't get bit in 10 to 15 mins I change baits. If they are biting and then stop or biting the tail end I will switch colors. Sometimes in shallow water you see a fish wake on a bait and then turn, I will switch colors.

Jesus people 10 to 15 minutes & y'all are changing baits!

How many casts do y'all make in 10 to 15 minutes?

If I'm throwing a Texas Rigged Worm or a Jig-N-Craw as far as I can it takes me 3-5 minutes to work it back to the boat.

I was thinking more along the line of 2 or 3 hours with out changing baits or colors

Yea, you're the famous structure fisherman though... ;D

And your point is?  ;)

Normally I will start covering water with a spinnerbait , lipless or jerkbait

and work it for 1 h

If i dont get a bite , i switch 2 soft plastics and work them for the rest of the day till i get bored and then switch 2 fast moving lures again

Depends where I'm at and what I'm fishing. If I'm fishing deeper structure I'll probably switch back and forth between a crank and spinner over and over. If it's more shallow, I'm going to keep throwing a senko or whatever soft plastic I'm feeling for that day.

As far as colors, I pretty well have the color(s) picked out for the day before I even get to my spot. Depends on the forage and water clarity for me. I narrow it down to 1, maybe 2 at most, colors.

Normally I fish with my wife and pre-rig six spinning outfits the evening before (I installed six rod holders for that purpose).

This means that I have a minimum of 5 lures choices at all times, without any re-rigging at all.

Most of the time, I'll fish every outfit at every holding site (surface to bottom).

How long I fish the same lure depends on many things, not the least of which is success.

Normally I won't fish any one lure for more than 10 or 15 minutes per waypoint (without fish contact).

After which I'll drop that outfit into a rod cup and grab-up another outfit (another lure).

Isn't that what everyone does? :-?
