bocabasser Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 picked up my new boat (used) yesterday and fished lox yesterday from 2-7 and caught 30. one that went around 4 and one that was 5ish. didn't weigh them but the have been the same 4-6 pound fish that we have been catching lately. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Sounds to me like the ideal Maiden Voyage. The best of luck Boca, with your new watercraft Roger Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Boca, What did you end up buying? Also, thinking of going to the flats this Friday. Skinny diippers I assume, right? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Sounds like a great day! 8-) Quote
piscicidal Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 d**n, BB. You've been crushing em lately. Looks like we are fishing the same spot out there... I'll be out there Sunday afternoon, either in a white Hewes or a yellow Maverick (both have poling platforms). Give a holler if you are out there. Quote
bocabasser Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 thanks fellas. i'm so stoked about the boat. i got a 99 ranger r91 intracoastal w/ a yamaha 200 vmax. this boat is soooo different from my little pathfinder flats boat. i bought it off of a retired doctor friend of mine and the engine only has 200 very babied hours. it was garage kept and super clean. the only thing that sucks is the gas (literally). no more $20 fuel stops that last 3 trips. can't wait to get her on lake o. south fla, don't waste your time on the flats, there are some big ones at the west bend and they are EATING. and of course use skinny's. i did catch a couple on a lipless with the back hook off, but it is a lot of work cleaning the bait constantly. piscicidal-will do. i think i have seen you out there a couple of times. i love lox. close to home, and loaded with big fish. Quote
GLADES Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Wow...That ranger looks brand new! Congrats on the new boat. I will be hopefully be heading out to LOX Friday morning, and I might get to slip away to fish again on Sunday afternoon. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 1, 2010 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 1, 2010 Nice boat Bruce. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 2, 2010 Super User Posted April 2, 2010 Love your boat! Thanks for the tip will put it to good use here in about an 1 hour or so. Quote
salmicropterus Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Congrats on the "looks like new" boat and a great first day. I'm sure I'll see you on the water some time Quote
piscicidal Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Bruce, I misspoke in my earlier post...i will be at Lox tomorrow afternoon not Sunday. I imagine you will be fishing the KOTG qualifier Sunday anyway...if so, good luck. Anyway, the boat looks great. I will keep an eye out for it. I've got a white Hewes with a platform. My friend has a yellow Maverick. We'll probably be in the Maverick, tomorrow. Give a holler at me if you see me out there (which is often) Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 Dang Bruce, nice fish and sweet boat. I'll look for my invitation for a night out snook fishing. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Nice boat and fish!! If you need a fishing partner let me know!! Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 Thanks for the advice Boca, went out yesterday and fished the flats for a little bit before hitting the canal where we caught some nicer sized fish. Skinny dippers were the ticket as well as t-rigged worms. By the way your boat is basically my boats twin ;D! I have a 185vs Intracoastal with a 150 Yamaha in a similar color scheme, mine has a darker blue accent. Great boat especially in S. Florida! Quote
BC Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Really sweet boat! Sounds like you guys are really into them down there. How are you fishing your dippers? Like swimbaits, weightless or t-rigged? Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 Really sweet boat! Sounds like you guys are really into them down there. How are you fishing your dippers? Like swimbaits, weightless or t-rigged? I was fishing them using 5/0 or 6/0 Gammy EWG t-rigged and using a 1/16 oz bullet weight. Would swim them back steadily and letting it drop around hole in grass. Most successful colors were houdini and gold digger, some came on white trash color. Quote
SoFl-native Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Went Friday as well. Had similar results as above. Had to move off the eel grass to find bigger bites. Good day overall. Caught fish, good weather, and go to meet Robert (South Florida) at the ramp. Pic of the best one: Quote
bocabasser Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 sweet so fla. lox is hot. my friends went out last night and had easily 20 pounds within the first hour. i have kotg tomorrow otherwise i would be at lox. right on bro. Quote
GLADES Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I went out to Lox Saturday 12 - 3pm and caught 6 bass 2-3 lb average using the houdini colored skinny dipper. I lost a biggun (pullin like a tractor) that took me from the bow to the stern of my 373 Ranger before the hook came out. I also caught 2 more using a basspro natural shiner colored paddle tail swim bait. The action was so/so on that bait..no slot for the hook like the skinny dipper. It was spinning a lot, I need to try some different type of hook. I was fishing a half mile west of the western bend and on the north side. The water was really clear and free of weeds. I really nice day and I am definitely heading to that area again next weekend. Quote
piscicidal Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I was out Saturday ~2:00 til 7:00. I stayed in the eel grass all day, trying several different areas out around the west bend of the flats. We caught a bunch of fish (~40) but mostly small with maybe 3 or 4 that were 2lbs. Tried frogs, poppers, dippers, buzzbaits, flukes, worms. Caught fish on everything, but 8.5" worms and dippers seemed to do the best. Last two times out I've caught a ton of fish in the eel grass but nothing big...I'm pretty satisified that the big ones have moved on. But it seems you guys have figured that out already...I'm a slow learner apparently. Quote
GLADES Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 The big ones are there, they are just not always cooperating. I was casting up against bull rushes. I got all of my fish saturday in a large cut on the north side. The bass were holding at the points in between the coves. It changes all the time out there. Quote
