I was just wondering what you guys thought would be a good place to go (fairly close to central VA) where I could go if I was going for numbers instead of size. Is there any smaller lakes around that keeps a good amount of bass stocked around?

how far are you from huntingrun? I hear that place can produce some good numbers AND size.

If you have a boat or are thinking of renting a boat, I have to agree with Andrew.  Tie on a senko and go to work.  Hunting Run is about to explode!!  Maybe Wayne will chime in on any tips or tricks out there........ he may be busy crushing them a Briery!!

For numbers, Hunting Run Lake is tops in Va. most of the time. Once you learn the lake and establish a pattern, 50-100+ bass a day is quite common. 176 bass in one day is the most I have caught there.

Briery Creek Lake is pretty good too with the chance of a State Record on any cast.

At either body of water, your ability to establish a pattern and avoid the "bank beating" syndrome will get good results.

Only problem with beatin the state record is you gotta be ready for it. You'd be lookin at around 17 pounds. I usually only have 10 or 12 pound test tied on personally unless Im throwing braid and I don't keep my net handy altho I should. I'm sure landing a 17 pounder would take a long time and the right combo of skills and equipment. I'm willing to bet when and if the record is broken it will indeed come from Briery Creek. If anyone can do it, Wayne can. Back to the original post tho, there are dozens of good spots in central va. Chickahominy can produce some pretty good numbers from everything I have read and been told. I'm lookin forward to gettin down there myself sometime in the next month or two. With so many great fisheries to pick from in VA , theres almost too many to pick from. It's like goin out to eat and seeing a dozen things on the menu you wanna try.

After reading the few post about Hunting run and looking at the aerial map, it looks and sounds pretty nice. I got a boat but I think that it is electric only am I correct? Is there any rules that allow you to use a bass boat in there if you remove the gas tank or anything like that?

The only rule about gas motors is they have to be tilted out of the water all the time. Lots of bass boats go there. Electric only.

Here is the sign stating it.

Thanks Wayne, since the fact ive never been here, i dont wanna venture up there without a clue of where on the reservoir to go, what lures produce there, or even where the boat ramp is ;D . I plan on heading out there next sunday since ill be on vacation this week. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks Brian.

Brian, I fished Hunting Run today and while it was a little tough this morning, after the air temp got into the 70's they really turned on. The only presentation I caught them on was the weedless wacky rigged finesse worm.
