cmatthews6485 Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 only caught one fish today which i will post the picture later the picture doesnt do it much justice because i tried to get it taken fast and i was bending the tail towards my body so you cant see how long it is but the fish was easily 8 pounds and i think between 8 and 10 and the random guy that was fishing near me said the same thing i wish i would of had my ruler because it was over the 22 inches for citation and the guys scale was broke and read 32 lbs and i didnt have my scale it would of easily of made citation for weight as well it was more than twice the size of my 4lbers and my arm got sore from carrying it after fighting it in, caught it on a lipless crawdad colored crank. Wish i would of had a cooler in the explorer cause this one would of made my wall :'( new pb with an unknown weight. im going to try and go there tomorrow to see if i catch one even half the size of the one i caught today. I could fit my fist all the way in its mouth without it even touching the mouth. Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I wasnt expecting of catching anything bigger than 4lbs other wise i would of gotten a new battery for my scale and brought my ruler, from now on i am always going to make sure i have those items when im fishing, the guy that took the picture for me said he has been fishing wilde lake for years and that was the biggest one he has seen caught out of that place. hokiefisherman93 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Ha and to have doubted the story I told you bout my similar fish a couple years ago. Way to go Chris and you interested in heading out this coming weekend? Quote
heyitskirby Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Went to Powhatan Ponds today. Caught a good size crappie on a stickbait, may have been close to citation. The bass have been getting spooked, though, and I can't seem to do nothing with them. Putting the boat back in the water this weekend, hoping to hit the shad. Any reports on them? Quote
SimonSays Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 In about 2hrs of fishing a buddy reported he caught 4 shad. They're coming, just not en masse yet! Quote

Man, didn't you learn from fishing with me? Always have an extra scale and an extra camera. Sucks bro, would have liked to see that one. I'm just about ready to get back in the old everyday routine. You down? I'm about to fire it back up tomorrow. I have a friend coming into Richmond from NY and we're headed to Briery for a day then down to a private 40 acre lake near Greenville, NC and we'll be the only ones on it for 4 days. It's pure heaven. Last time we went we caught 10 over 4 pounds in 3 days including these two decent ones. Nothing over 6 yet. The one that swallowed a mellon was 5.8 and the other 5.10. This year is my year. Getting ready to hit it hard again with the weather breaking. Bass and boat fever are kicking in! Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 yea it was just that i never had any luck there catching anything over 1.5 lbs so i wasnt expecting to get one of that size, but from now on i am going to make sure that i have everything i need, my dad was with me earlier and he had a good camera and a scale and he left about 20-30 minutes before i caught it and i hadnt caught anything all day before that so i didnt think to ask for his scale or camera and im ready to start the every day routine again after the rain we get tomorrow goes away Quote
Shawn OConnor Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Have we fished there? Doesn't sound familiar. Would like to check it out though. Also want to go to that place we went that night south of town at the end of Powhite I think. Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 no we havent fished there yet but its deffinately a good spot, and yea i want to try that powhite place again too Quote
VAfishin Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 fished Wilde Lake today and yesterday for a little bit after work. Saw a couple really nice fish, but couldn't get anything to hit. Quote
