I know that's extreme, but now you're reading! I grew up on Weiss on the lower powerhouse lake but never started fishing it much until this last year.

I've searched the world over, and Weiss just never gets brought up in the conversation about bass fishing, and I don't know why. All the tournament weigh-ins I've been to have been won with 12 pound bags!

I've seen pics of a recent guy who caught a 12 pounder and several 7 pound fish in the past couple weeks so I know it has good fish. I've tried this forum, and the North Alabama Fishing Forum and nobody wants to mention Weiss at all. Literally 3 posts on the latter forum mention weiss!

I'm helping my uncle practice up there tomorrow for this weekend's BFL tourney, and I don't know where to start. The lake has good depth variation, is only 1.4 feet down right now, and 52 degrees. It's got humps, holes, brush, docks, and creek channels galore. I can't figure out why it doesn't get any more respect as a bass habitat. My guess is Guntersville just overshadows it so well.

I caught my old personal best out of weiss prefishing 23 inches (only 5.5# though). Its a crappie destination, the bass are small overall 12 pounds isn't a winning bag a lot of locations especially that far south. takes 20 to think about winning on the potomac a lot of the time. don't really know about guntersville but i'd assume it takes even more (pots my home water)

I couldnt say for sure why its not mentioned....

I live in Birmingham and by virtue of the location I mainly fish Lay Lake, Logan Martin, Smith Lake, and some other local ponds/lakes - Weiss is just a bit far from me, but I would be willing to fish it at some point - you seem to have caught some quality fish there, as has my neighbor - probably isnt fished as much due to its location - its just a bit further away for many folks perhaps and subsequently other lakes get more attn??

Weiss can be tough for someone unfamiliar with the lake, anyone who knows the lake will tell you that you can tear a boat up quickly there.  I agree with the comment that it has excellent habitat, it is an awesome lake.  In years gone by it was heavily pressured but Guntersville gets most of the attention now.

I used to fish it on a weekly basis.  However I put in on the GA side.  I would suggest you go up the Coosa River towards Brushy Branch Creek and even further north.  Try all of the mouth creeks coming into the Coosa River and even back into the creeks themselves.  There are also several stretches along the lake that are packed full of docks.  Check them out.  I like Lake Weiss a lot.  Have fun and good luck.

A co-worker of mine fishes a club trail based out of Weiss. In fact he fished yesterday... he caught 7 pounds, it took 19 to win. He never seems to do well there, but someone in his club has that lake dialed in. Personally, I have only fished Logan Martin on the Coosa chain.

This is funny you start this topic, because my dad and me are considering going to Weiss one weekend within next two months. Either that are maybe skip over to Florence and fish those three lakes. Or we might stop in Chattanooga and fish Chickamauga and Watts Bar.

If we choose go to Weiss before June, what will bass and crappie fishing be like? We probably bass fish 80% of the time then try catch some of those famous crappies.
