NovaBasser Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I was out there today and it was a bit tough! I caught 2 fish only. One 5 pounds and 21 inches, and a 16 inch 2 pounder. Caught both fish on the far side of the old d**n that's in view of the park launch. I found schools of shad, and bass pushing/popping them up to the surface. Caught both fish on Rage Tail Pearl Shad. You can see the old dam in the background of the second pic. Not sure about the tournaments, I would like know more. I know for sure there are members here that fish them. Hopefully some of them can shed a bit of light. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 here is the link for the tourneys [ftp]http://fountainheadbassclub.com/[/ftp] I think the map is worth it. If for nothing else you learn the general depths and "local" names of most places (points, coves, etc...) Quote
shadchasin Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Once again I appreciate the info.I feel like it may take sometime out there to get used that res.Man it would be great to get into a tourny ourt there just to be part of it would be a good learning experience. Quote
T.R. Express Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Great fish another siteer! Fountainhead has been a tough bite for the past few weeks, JVM had some good catches C-riggin. As far as a Topo Map, they are a great resource as you mark them up when you find good spots. As the summer goes on Fountainhead gets tougher, alot of C-rigs and Jigs will work with a slow presentation of main points. Quote
JVM Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Good catch. I was out there for 1.5 hrs on Sunday and boated a 3lb'er give or take. Pics below. She SLAMMED a c-rigged worm of of one of the fingers. Holding close to cover and close to the bank. Maybe 4ft water if I had to guess. After that, hit it again Monday with TRE and caught nothing. Threw EVERYTHING at em to no avail. Not even a bite. I did catch a yellow perch however, and TRE caught a Crappie. :-/ The Tourneys are every other Sunday for the most part. The schedule can be found on the fountainheadbass site that SoccPlayr posted. My only advice would be this... If you can fish a tourney with someone who knows what they are doing, go for it, if not, you might want to look at the results pages of past tourneys and wait until you can come close to a 15-20lb bag somewhat consistently before you start throwing away your money. The rez can produce some good numbers, and heavy too, but if you don't know the rez, it will take a good amount of time before you really know what youre doing. This is speaking from experience and I still dont feel comfortable enough to fish the tourneys regularly. Once I start getting out there more often it will be another story as I have learned an awful lot in the 2yrs I have been fishing there. On another note, any of u local NoVA guys know someone with a cheap Jon boat and trailer for sale? Quote
MikeVictor Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Nice Fish, I'd appreciate some recommendations on where, when, and with what and how to catch bass out of Fountainhead in a kayak...no motor, so can't be very far away from the ramp. I'm planning on being there April 10th, any kayak bass fishers are more than welcome to join and make it a group thing. I'm planning this trip on the kayakbassfishing web forum as well. I've rarely fished the rez, would appreciate some pointers. I have a fish finder. Mike Quote
