Are chatterbaits worth investing in??

just got some not too long ago.  Used them a few times with no luck.  Interested to see how they will do in the dead heat of a southern summer

get yourself a booyah boogie bait. these things never let me down and are extremly versitile as far as what conditions you can throw them in. ive had them work in the middle of both summer and winter and seem to be able to catch somthing more times than not, one of my more productive lures, one to to watch tho is to make sure after you get hung up or catch a fish that the clip that holds the body to the blade hasnt come loose  

+1  My two white chatterbaits didn't produce, and I'm not really sure why I purchaed the gold shad boogie bait.  I had my first 30+ fish day on this bait...it  was unreal.  This is out of a couple acre pond.  I bet it averaged out to be a keeper every other cast.  I now stock the boogie bait in gold shad and lavender shad.

I took the skirt and trailer off of mine and put a Lake Fork Tackle live magic shad on it instead. I use it more like a crankbait/swimbait for bass hanging out around deep water structure.

I think I only caught one fish on it the way it came in the package. Many other anglers have had more success with a fluke, paddle tail, or some other shad imitation on it.

I have caught many Largemouths and Smallies on the CB, 95% of the time I had it rigged with just a super fluke and no skirt. As with a spinnerbait you will have to change your retrive speed to see what the Bass wants. I always sharpen the hook out of the package and have no problems with landing the fish.  Good Luck

I was at Walmart yesterday looking at the Chatterbaits brand and the Strike King Pure Poison and the Booyah Boogiebait.  I liked the Pure Poison best out of them, the way the blade attaches to the head it won't come unhooked like the Boogiebait will.  The Chatterbait seemed like a good one but no apparent advantage over the Pure Poison that I could see, except for the prerigged trailers they had on them, which I don't like the looks of that much.   The Pure Poison was sold about $1.50 cheaper for some reason.  I'm gonna get one of each color they had in the Pure Poison......blue/black, white, and chartreuse.........and see what happens when I fish them.  Thanks for the replies.

I've had some luck with Chatterbaits catching bass, but not so good luck with the quality of those baits.  I've had a few come apart leaving only the blade attached to the line.  I've had a a couple where the eye where the blade was attached actually broke.

Yeah I was noticing the part where the split ring attaches to the blade looks kind of thin.  I actually wondered how strong that would be but otherwise didn't think too much on it.  Now I'm wondering......hmmm.........

Think I'll give 'em a try anyway.  Seems everyone here has caught a few fish on them in one way or another.  If it puts a few more in the boat then it's worth it to me.

I purchased the chatterbait kit because it was a better value, more trailors and skirts. I lost one jig and caught a fish on the other. The strikes on the chatterbait is unreal. Like another member said it felt like the fish wants to rip my rod/reel out of my hand.

I have had pretty good luck with mine, but like anything else the imitation baits are not near the quality.

I would suggest the Chatter Bait kit from Wal-mart or either BPS. They come with a jig chater bait in the kit and multiple skirts and trailer kits also . When the bite is tough the chatter bait is one of my got to baits.

i used to HATE chatterbaits. i had 4 and lost all of them before catching a fish. i told myslef i would never buy one again.

i had a tournament this weekend at a pretty big bass lake and was throwing cranks, spinnerbaits, and jigs. while i was thorwing a spinnerbait in the underwater trees, my baoter was throwing a chatterbait with a different trailer and on his first 2 cast caught 2 keepers. he offered me a try so i took it and caught 2 keepers on it within 5 casts!

i am a firm beleiever now and will probably throw them more than spinnerbaits. i think they are awesome

Kinda keep this quiet....just between you and me.....a guy on the FLW tour just won two tourneys in a row on a chatterbait/jig/swim senko tail doo-hickey.  In Florida Toho and California Delta at that...... impressive indeed.

I have thought that  blade baits are better than Chatterbaits.    I have no confidence in them cause I don't take the time to throw one.

My GF on the other hand has lost some very nice fish on them, and caught some as well.    She will ask if its a good chatterbait day almost every trip.

    She has confidence in them.     After our last trip, they have their place in my box as well, they flat out produced the spinner in muddy water.

        Also this year when the STREN series was on Falcon, half the winning sacks weight was caught on a chatterbait with skirt removed and replaced with a Lake Fork Magic Shad, so this bait can have trailers added, fish as it is or can be modified.    

   Its hard to argue with someone who catches over 50 lbs of bass on a bait that helped him win over $100,000.

When I broke one out at a tournament last weekend a got a few negative comments. I don't care. I feel that chatter-baits are a very versatile bait. You can use them as a jig, a swim jig, a spinnerbait, and a jerk bait. Where else can you get an all round bait for $4.00. Try the original Chatter- bait to avoid the critics. Get a few colors. Black and blue, yellow and white, and a green and brown. Fish them fast, fish them slow, pull them like a jerk bait. You'll catch fish!!!

Hey Bass XL, that shirt should say "My Wife went on a cruise and all I got was this shirt"  Every year my wife goes on a Cruise with her friends in early February and this year they stopped in Cozumel and hit Senor Frogs.  I heard great stories about the place!  The trade off is that I get to fish in Florida for a week!  This year I spent it at Stick Marsh and it was well worth it!

I fish them a lot in early to late spring.  I throw them anytime I could throw a spinnerbait or crankbait.

I prefer to make my own.  Lots of fun and you can tailor them to your waters.
