Punkinseedfyretailz Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 anyone know when its going to open up for the season???? looking to get a tournament going there come march 20 so hopefully they'll be open by them. i've called vdgif but they seem to be clueless about what could turn into one of the best fisheries around. i just can't wait to hit the lake again, got a couple new set ups that i'm dying to use Quote
A.Do? Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 might want to ask wayne p. he's kind of an expert with that body of water... Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 26, 2010 Super User Posted February 26, 2010 You rang????????????? The planned opening date is the first Sat. in March. The Spotsylvania County web site hasn't been updated and still shows the 2009 dates. I wonder if the parking lot and road have been scraped to remove the snow. Do you run the Ice Breaker event? Quote
quanjig Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Only problem trying to have a tx on hunting run is it has to be a slot tx or a paper tx. It is illegal to posess any fish in the slot so you are very limited as to what you can bring to the scales. Either a citation or a 'lil baby!! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 27, 2010 Super User Posted February 27, 2010 Here is the sign at the lake pertaining to the slot limit: Quote
Punkinseedfyretailz Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 no i dont run any events. just lookin to get a family tourney goin. we're very competetive. so how do they run their tourney's, i know one of the last times i fished there last year they had one going. any good lakes around that anyone would recommend for a tourney. i know ni reservoir has no slot but you can't have a gas motor on your boat when you go so that limits some of my guys. how much are lake anna rentals???? VolFan Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Sturgeon Ceerk Marina has small pontoons for rent if you go that route. Rates are posted on their website. We did this a couple times last year and there's plenty of good spots within a few minutes with the small motor, It's $100 for the day with a little toon. Also, there's some great cabins at the state park if ya'll want to make a weekend out of it. Quote
NovaBasser Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Hunting Run is my favorite spot so far and have been itching to get back out there. Wayne P., do you have the # for the Marina house? I would like to give them a call on Saturday to confirm that they are open, if so I am going to make a trip out there Sunday morning. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 No, I don't have that phone number. Maybe a call to the Spotsylvania County Parks dept before Sat. will confirm if it. Quote
NovaBasser Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Its official.....Hunting Run is open! I fished it Sunday. The water is still really cold and locating the fish was extremely hard(good electronics should help). I did manage to land a really decent 20" 4# LMB by slow rolling a 3/4oz White/Chart Dbl Willow spinnerbait deep. Cannot wait till the water warms up a bit and the fish get feeding. Quote
