NewAngler Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I will be in Virginia beach for Wednesday through Saturday. Can anyone let me on on some spots down there? I will have my kayak. Thanks. Any surf fishing worth it now? Quote
quanjig Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Lake Trashmore. Not sure you can put your yak in tho. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I live and work in Newport News so, I am a little fimilar with that area, but I mainly fish NN area lakes. From what I know, try Lake Whitehurst down there in VA Beach area. It is on the shallow side from what I hear Also, check out www.bassjons.com which mainly deals with Suffolk/Cheaspeak areas. But, a lot of those lakes are 9.9 hp limited jon-boat places. I have not fished Lake Trashmore because Mt. Trashmore is a garbage dump with grass over it. Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Put your 'yak in at Owl's Creek. There should be some puppy drum or redfish there. The flounder should be coming up too. This of course is a little old news, the last time I spoke to anyone about that was a few weeks ago. If you want the best advice I would say to go to Bruce's Bait Shop a little south of the intersection of Dam Neck and General Booth. There's a kid down there who 'yak fishes all the time (even in the ice of January). The last time I spoke to him he was telling me how good the puppy drum were hitting in Rudee Inlet. I don't salt fish much so I dunno. If you want some freshwater stuff go to Sandbridge Road and there's a bridge that crosses Hell's Point Creek. Put in there and you should be able to hit the best parts of Back Bay. I was walking over a foot bridge near there and found a floundering 2 lb Pickerel. They're there. Quote
NewAngler Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 I heard owls creek is where I should be . Any idea what to throw? Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Not a clue. Most guys around here throw live or cut bait. So with that being said, I have had to kinda guess with lures. I would guess at some kind of swimming jig or lipless crank. Quote
Bigs Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Sounds like there might be a nova fish fry coming up Quote
ChazfromVA Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 if your going after bass you need to try lake smith in Va beach... whole lake is about 6ft deep and isn't huge by any means but it has some lunkers in there... with the 70 degreee temps this week its gonna be pre spawn city... look at www.bassjons.com and see how we did this past saturday when it was still rather cold. Whitehurst is closed by the way Quote
