NewAngler Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 So, we shall pick up where we left off.. I will be hitting the Occoquan RIver this weekend and kayaking upstream. Where is everyone else going to be? Quote
A.Do? Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Not sure where yet but I know I'm getting out. The think this rain and warm temps have de-iced a lot of water! I'm also thinking everything is going to look like chocolate milk... Quote
NOVA Angler Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I'll be out on the river for the first time this year on Sunday. We'll probalby start up north and possibly work our way down south. Quote
quanjig Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Main river looks good for now. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets abit muddy as well. Fountainhead opens this weekend if anyone is interested. Josh, that would be a good place to put in and give it a go!! Wish I could get out there this weekend but I will be in Florida. Oh darn!! Quote

Dang Rob, I'm jealous but I'm glad to hear people are starting to get back out. I've been meaning to send you a PM but haven't got around to it. Seems as though every professor wants to squeeze an exam in before spring break. I hope you all have some pictures to post up. Edit: NewAngler, in a couple of weeks (depending on what way the temps trend) that place I told you about might be worth checking out Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I hope this new storm misses up tonight/tomorrow! Quote
RockvilleMDAngler Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I might be going out Sunday out of Belle Haven. Quote
Bigs Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Lake Anna again for me. Gonna have a go with these flick shakes. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 24, 2010 Super User Posted February 24, 2010 crushed over 100 yellow perch on the Occoquan today. Quote
Bigs Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 crushed over 100 yellow perch on the Occoquan today. Plz tell me you got some bass mixed in there too . How in the heck did you end up with a hundred perch anyways ? What were you using? Quote
SimonSays Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Man sometimes hitting the perch is a heck of a lot more fun than bass...especially when you can slam 100 in a day! Awesomeness Dan. Quote
NewAngler Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Nice Dan, what were you using? Upstream or down? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 no bass. I wasn't fishing for them. We found a school of YP and stuck with them. All of the fish were caught within a 15 ft area in 2.5 hours on Silver Buddies. Bass are still tough on the river...water temp was only 34. Josh, it was downstream from the ramp. Quote
A.Do? Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Very nice Dan! I've hooked into some big YP before and they put up a hell of a fight. Especially on light tackle! Beats what i did today...work > Quote
mudkart Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Very nice Dan! I've hooked into some big YP before and they put up a hell of a fight. Especially on light tackle! Beats what i did today...work > Hey, I asked if you wanted to go... (as I stay up doing the work I should have done ths morning). Quote
Bigs Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 My friend Brent told me there is tons of them under the bridge that goes over route one. Altho I think he might have meant the other bridge, the new one that takes u right into lorton. 34 degrees is crazy low water temps. I guess Im spoiled fishing 63-67 degree water at lake anna. And yes they can put up a hellova fight. My girl caught one that was 13 inches long and over a pound and I thought she had a 3 pound bass at first the way it fought. Good times Quote

Beats what i did today...work > Hey, I asked if you wanted to go... (as I stay up doing the work I should have done ths morning). haha, I hate you....I took advantage of the excused workflow from the snow days and now I'm stuck with more old cases than I'm comfortable with. I drove by a pond today that is always the first to freeze and it was completely ice free! I'm going to take that as a sign that other bodies of water should be fishable by the weekend Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 apparently the bridge is a community hole this time of year. Quote
A.Do? Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Anything going down tomorrow? My day is free and I'm hoping to get some fishing in! What are my options? Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 NewAngler, What kind of yak do you have? Quote
NewAngler Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Not much of one. Perception blast 9.5 Don't think I'm pulling it out tomorrow. I'm going out tomorrow, don't know where. Where?!?! Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 It's better than not having one at all. Do you have it rigged out? I've been looking for one since December. I might be going with something similar for my first one. Anyway, maybe will meet up sometime this season. Quote
NewAngler Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 yea, man. I'm sure we'll hook up sometime. I plan on taking mine out twice a week for a few hours in the spring and summer. Stay on top of craigslist for a yak, I saw one the other day for $75. I'm in the process of rigging it out now. I just bought a fish finder, and going to get some rod holders and anchor system for it. Looking forward to an awesome season with tht thing, Quote
