Hey Folks-

Has anyone ever been to Dream Lake in Alabama? My wife got me a day there for late February....

Any tips? How'd you do? Worth the hype?

Thanks-

BEN

It's in Livingston, AL - about 2 and a half hours from Birmingham, I believe....

The website is Dreamlakelodge.com

I have not ever been, but am going at end of February.

Hey Man, looks like we'll be there at the same time.

I'm fishing there on Friday (Feb. 26th), and possibly Saturday (27th)....Is that same time y'all will be there?

Can't wait, but also getting VERY nervous about the rainy/cold weather we've been having down south. Hope the fish will still be biting.

Yep - we will be there those very same days. Small world. Fishing Lake 1 on Fri and Lake 2 on Saturday. I spoke with Paul over there yesterday. He said superfluke strike was on (smokin shad color). Had a group of nonfisherman there that caught some good ones monday (biggest 10lbs). As a general rule this time of year, he offered the following baits:

1. Super fluke- Gamakatsu 4/0 hook (round bend),  smokin shad or pearl color. Not sure how or if weighted.

2. Spinner baits- gold blades (willow or colorado) with green/pearl skirt (This is the best big fish bait)

3. Crank baits (fat free shad) all sizes and colors

4. Some caught on jigs, didn't get into color but I'm guessing something green.

Of course I'll talk to him just prior to driving over from Jackson, MS thurs evening. You should do the same. Weather scares me too. I have had terrible luck the last few years with trips. Fished El Salto in Mexico thru hurricane Rick last Oct. My name is Joe Oliver. Guess I'll be seeing you in a few weeks. JO

I have never heard of Dream Lake so I have nothing to add, but I would like to ask a question. Is this the same Benito who holds the big fish trophy for the Dodge Co. P.F.A. fishing get together? If not then never mind, stop reading here. If so, well, you are gonna have to put that trophy on the line soon. We all agreed that that trophy was going to be a floating trophy and here you are planning a trip to a Bill Dance type lake before you gave anyone a chance to win that monster trophy. Whats up with that??!!! ;D

Hey Man - Yes, that's me! Still cherish that trophy, no matter how lucky I was to win it.

I'm hoping to attend the outing at Charlie Elliot (haven't seen a date yet), and will gladly bring the trophy. I'm also bringing my daughter to the "Mini-Me" tournament in April...Are you gonna be at either one of those?

Who is this, by the way?

Ben,

This is I. Dean. The actual first person to touch that beautiful piece of plastic on your mantle. And please be careful with that thing... it was a whopping $5.75 plus shipping (which was $6.95 by the way!). Keep that new fishing partner of yours from knocking it down with its tail! The mini-me is a no go for me, but the Charlie Elliott thing would be good if it does not fall on a club tourney date.

That was an awesome turn of events, by the way. You travel all that way, made it on time (when other local guys did not), and walked away with the trophy. It could not have been scripted any better. Well except for if I won it that is... but I was happy doing the event photographer thing.

Good luck on Dream Lake... and if I can make it to Charlie Elliott you are gonna have to work to keep that glittering piece of bass plastic!!!!

Wow. Talked to Paul at Dream Lake today. He said a single there Thur or Fri last caught 40 bass, his top 10 weighing around 90lbs. A second boat with 2 fishing caught around 70 with a biggest of only 7lbs. Looks like the weather may not be too bad with nightly lows in the low 30's and highs in the low to mid 50's both days. Can't wait to get there. I guess we'll see you there Thursday night.  Joe O

Just a couple of more days.....Can't wait! Paul also told me about the guy with the 10 fish weighing 90+ pounds.....Amazing! He told me the guy was dead-sticking a big, 12-inch black worm. Just twitching it every now and then.....Can't even imagine that many big fish in one day......

Joe, I'll look out for you....Fishing there on Friday for sure, Saturday possibly.....

Good luck

I live in B-ham, never fished these lakes before - how much does it cost?  I have fished triple D ranch lakes a few times in Boelegee which was mucho fun - always very productive.

It's expensive - Luckily my wife got it for me for my Birthday gift........It's $250 for a day of fishing (includes bass boat....), and another $100 per day if you want to stay the night at their lodge, food, etc.......

Haven't ever been either - have heard it's amazing and worth it, will let you know how it goes for me this weekend.

Take care-

Sounds good, but pricey!

If you havent been to triple D ranch (about 1 hour west of tuscaloosa) - I hightly recommend - 75 bucks per head per day - call in advance to reserve - the owners are the coolest people - we catch em all day 2-4 pounders - always someones catches a 5-6 pounder (once a 8 lber last year) - I have unfortunately not cleared 5 lb fish yet  :'( - only been fishing for under 2 years - my day will come.

You will have to post some pics of your catches on here when you get back - take care.
