Spoke to a sales clerk at Bennett's Hallmark in Stony Point Shopping Center yesterday afternoon and she told me that the Richmond area has received more snow than her parents in Michigan and her daughter at the University of Iowa.

If the storm moves 30-miles to the east Richmond will get clobbered with up to 20-inches.

If the storm stays on track then Goochland and west will get clobbered and Richmond area will get about 6-inches.

Go to  www.wxrisk.com  and read the forecast from the guy who predicted the past two storms correctly and others in the past.

This is the guy that Jimmy Barrett on WRVA uses to predict the forecast and the WxRisk guy is better than the National Weather Service.

Looks like another weekend of staying inside.

Lets hope we do not lose power and miss the Super Bowl.  :)

Carrington,

In Virginia, public schools can open if all students have transportation to and from the school locations.

So if one (1) route is impassible for the school bus, then the schools must close.

Chesterfield is closing since their big yellow buses cannot maneuver safely on their routes, even if the main roads are clear.

Remember, we have a lot of dangerous roads on good days in the county so with any snow or ice these roads become extremely dangerous.  :)

This is why I do not like the way the regions are set up on this board. I live in the south east, have not seen a flake of snow this year and other than a thin layer of ice on our yard fountain I have not seen one sliver of natural ice on any body of water in eight years. On the 17th of January I saw water temps of 45 degrees... by far the coldest water I have noticed in years. For the record, last Sunday (31st) water temps were a balmy 52 degrees.

As active as you Virginians are on this board you should have your own state board. On second thought, never mind... I like reading about you guys shoveling your driveways as I head out to fish the post spawn. ;)

Just saw a forecast that said that we are going to get 15-18 inches of snow Friday and Saturday. Along with that, the weatherman said that their will be some ice with it.If I lose power and can't watch the Superbowl, I won't be happy. And all of the the lakes will be frozen for another month and a half. :'(

lol power wont stop my house, we have an auto generator that kicks on when we lose power.  now if cable goes then ill be mad about missing the super bowl.

I live near Martinsville near the NC border, and it's UNBELIEVABLE the snow we've had here this winter. Our average snowfall is around 12". and so far this year, this is what we've gotten:

December 17-18: 14"

January 29-30th: 12"

February 5th-6th: 8" of snow, 1"of sleet/ice

And another chance for a winter storm NEXT Friday! 2 Fridays in a row, and a Friday back in December...that's crazy. But hey, at least they're getting smaller! I'm ready to go fish!

Luckily the latest batches of snow we received here in Charlottesville were much less than the forecasts (The snowpocalypse passes quietly...). That being said it is a little difficult to fish with 12 inches of snow and frozen lakes. I don't think I have ever wanted spring so badly in my life.
