oteymc Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 We are going on vacation Dec 26th-Jan 2, and staying in Indian Rocks Beach. I am looking for some smaller lakes to try to fish for Bass. Anyone know of some around that would offer decent bank fishing or if some place that rents boats. I saw Taylor Lake and a lake at Walsingham Park were not too far. I know that there are some really good places to fish that are a good drive away, and I will probably try to take a guided trip at one of those places, like Toho. Thanks in advance. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 sorry dont know of any places near by but thought it was cool your going to indian rocks, thats where my dad lives. When i visit him every year we take boat out and do some saltwater fishn!! good times! Quote
Brute Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Lake Walsingham is close to you. I have caught some decent fish there and there is quite a bit of shoreline available so you can fish without a boat. Brute Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 24, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 24, 2009 Westchester lake near SR 580 and Countryside Blvd looks good. I have not fished it but I was working in the park several weeks ago and wished I had a rod with me. Lots of bank to walk but there are no boats allowed. If you want to try something further east into Polk let me know and I will try to get you some good info. I will be fishing Kissimmee this weekend and should have a good report. Quote

Aluma-Bass Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 One word for you, SNOOK! Trust me on this one , think bass tackle and presentations. I agree! i would get out with some hvy bass tackle and you will be surpised what what you may hang into. Or get castnet catch you some greenbacks and nose hookem and letem free swim and hang on! Ive caught nice fish both on beach, and bay side. Just ask the local tackle shops or marinas and the will let ya know whats runnin. Also can try Reddington Long Pier and maybe take the family. I cant wait for my trip down but that wont be till summer time. Quote

LCpointerKILLA Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Looks like your guide knew where the hawgs are. What lake was it? Quote
oteymc Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 It was a little place called Saddle Creek. A bunch of flooded Phosphate pits. I hooked into another one that I think was at least this big, but didn't get her to the boat. Allen was very knowledgeable and worked his but off to get me on some fish. The bite wasn't very good, but we just kept after it. Quote
oteymc Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 It's only about 65 miles from Indian Rocks, but 20 of that is from here to the other side of Tampa. So even without traffic it is at least 1 1/2 hrs. East of Lakeland right off 92. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 30, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 30, 2009 That's where the wife and I go when the wind is up. My daughter caught her first five pounder there last year this time. It is a great place to fish and I'm glad you got yourself a big one. How did you catch it? Quote
oteymc Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 We found a big flat hump in the middle of one of the more open areas, and were making long casts to it with a carolina rigged black w/blue flake worm (prob 5 inches), and crankbaits. I caught this one on the carolina rig, the one that got off was on a crankbait. We caught a few dinks on both. It took us a long time to find out what they wanted though. They definitely liked the worms better, I am not that great with a worm though. I need to force myself to use one more. I learned alot about how to properly fish that way on this trip. Quote
