JVM Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I have been to Burke a few times and yeah it seems just as hard as any body of water to learn. I think a lot of the "high pressure" comments are mistaken. It gets its share of bass fisherman as well as northern species. Thru spring and summer the biggest headache is from the pleasure boaters who rent all the jon and paddle boats, making noise, crowding the area, etc... This time of the year i have been out tere and you wont normally find much pressure there. That has been my experience but I DO stay away from Burke. If I had a jon boat tho I would prob drop it in this Sunday just as well as any other place. I was thinking about fishing this Sunday. No boat so prob shoring it but if anyone decides to do some fishing shoot me a PM -Josh Quote
LHC - Bank Robber Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Bite was great today off of riverside, I got two pretty quick on senkos. Then decided to chuck some bigger baits, first was a spro bbz shad, first cast i had one boil up behind it then nothing for about a half hour. Changed to a buzz jet jr and pulled in two dinks in as many casts, but it did land one real nice fish. (sorry for the bad pics) Quote
quanjig Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Burke has changed drasticly in the last couple of years. The water is crystal clear. It used to have a nice color to in for most of the year. That coupled with the amount of people who just rent boats to cruse the lake make it difficult at times. Like Josh said, you can go out this time of year and might not even see another boat. This is what I call quality time. Being very familiar with the lake I can take advantage of the quiet and look for the fish that do climb back up in the water column and they become more apt to take a bait. Just my opinion but I do think it should be ripe for the pickin' this weekend. Water back up in whats left of the weeds, perfect water temp to slow roll a spinnerbait, enough wood cover to make it interesting, and I'll always look at the piles and points and drops. Very much looking forward to Sunday. As far as Beaverdam, I've only been a handful of times with limited success. Wasn't aware you could get a boat in there again, thought they rolled a couple of big boulders in at the church ramp. You can get a bassboat in Burke at the main ramp, we put my buddies 21ft center console skeeter in, no problem. Gettin' it out was tough as you have to winch it out!! I've seen plenty in there though. River might be a bit tough this week-end, probably lots of floaters with all of the extream tides. Quote
Thai Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Checked out 4 mile run today and caught one that was over 2 and a blue cat, both on spinners, had a few misses and would deff head back there soon. Water was pitch black, and fish were boiling on topwater Quote
Jake... Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Thats cool Thai. around where is 4 mile at?? anyways here's a couple ill share from the other day at riverside. + a yellow perch which fell off as I tried to swing it to shore. all caught on 4" senkoz Quote
Bigs Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 nice bass LHC, looks it might have went over 3 pounds or so. So Thai, you missed my last post, I was asking you what you think all this rain is gooan do for fishin on sunday and monday ? Not like the water was real clear to begin with but do you think it will be too muddy to catch some nice fish ? Looks like LHC is havin no problems in the rain. But keep in mind that fishing from shore is alot easier then fishing from a boat out there. I can't get my boat way up in the thick stuff and shallow water. Thats where fishing from shore has its advantages. A little pelican boat or flat jon boat is another story tho. Speakin of which someone listed a nice 12 foot pelican boat on craigslist for $150!! Im so tempted. Quote
Thai Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I'm actually starting to like fishing the dirty water, with clarity down presentation I suspect wouldn't matter as much which means throwing reaction lures would be the ticket and you cant go wrong with Senkos, and all the extra water flow would stir up the baitfish and might make the bass want to feed more... one of my better days at riverside was when it had just rained and water was dirtyyyyyyyyyyyyy. And I agree with you about the fishing from shore thing, you never really know in a situation like this whether it would be favorable to the fisherman or the fish so going through all the trouble of taking a boat out might be bust but you can never go wrong with shore fishing since you can always pack it up and move on. I do plan on going out tomorrow too and if you would like I'd love for you to come fish up here with us Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 14, 2009 Super User Posted November 14, 2009 quanjig, they removed the boulders from in front of the ramp at the church ramp early this season. They also chopped back some of the brush and trees near the ramp. Quote
Bigs Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 I think I got a sinus infection but Im gonna tough it out and fish tommorow. U guys fishin the river ? I'm down if so. The thing bout shore fishin tho is that Im so used to bringin 8 or 9 rods out on my boat so I dont know how to narrow it down. I suppose I will bring one baitcaster and one spinning setup. Speakin of which, theres a few shimano stradic 2500 ci4's on ebay right now. They have been on backorder for a month or so and Im temtped to buy one. There was 6 last night and 2 have sold since then, decisions. Should I just buy the 4 that are left ? hmmm Quote

Bigs Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 I can afford it but I dont really need 4 more spinning reels, I have two and I hardly even use them as it is. Its the fact that the new stradic is so hard to get right now that makes me wanna buy the 4 on ebay. Think I'll pass for now and wait till bing * cashback rewards go up to 15 percent and then buy one . I fished 4 mile run from my boat last time I went out and didnt even get a nibble. I did see several people fishing from shore tho. My boy says he has caught many nice size bass out of there too so there must be something to it. I'll come out for a bit , what time u goin ? Call me tommorow after u wake up and touch base with me. Im goin to bed now, when you get old like me one day , you'll get sleepy at 10:30 too Quote
Jake... Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 if anyone goin fishin 2morrow, I am down. feel free to holla. post here/pm me it better nice day! Quote
NewAngler Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I know its pretty far in advance.. But I'm fishing all day saturday next weekend. Don't know where yet, but up in NOVA area more than likely. Burke lake possibly with all this burke talk. Let me know if you guys are interested. I'll be with my brother who is a worse angler than I. mantis1 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I heard the bite was ON today in Occ riv. before the tide changed. I had to work, outside even. > Lee Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 14, 2009 Super User Posted November 14, 2009 420angler, what in the world would you need 4 spinning reels for?!?! lol. I only keep one around for smallmouth plastics, shaky head, and the rare occasion when I dropshot. It barely even gets used anymore! Quote

I only keep one around for smallmouth plastics, shaky head, and the rare occasion when I dropshot. It barely even gets used anymore! Actually with bing cashback rewards I could have bought all 6 of them and flipped on here for about a 20 dollar profit per reel. I opted not to and just let others buy them. Im pretty sure no one even knew they were on there cuz the listings hardly had any views when I looked. I dont need any spinning reels to be honest, to me they serve no purpose whatsoever. I cast further and more accurate with a baitcasting setup anyways. On a sidenote, Thai, D16, Slipgun and myself went on a shore fishing adventure today that amounted to one single fish weighing .61 pounds caught by myself on a 4 inch senko. None of us could really get on top of fish. We did however see alot of huge fish jumpin in 4 mile run. They were either stripers or huge largemouths, they were gigantic fish. They werent carp or catfish, they were jumpin too high. We made repeated casts in their vicinity and couldnt get them interested. We must have walked a total of at least 3 miles today, all for one fish :-[ Quote
shimmy Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Goodness man, 420, i must say. You talk about buying additional boats, buying new reels and rods, and being able to fish almost any day of the week...What do you do for work?! And yes, i am jealous. Quote
LHC - Bank Robber Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 what part of 4 mile run were you guys fishing? I got two off the front of riverside yesterday morning, both on top water. I might head back out there today after some football. Quote
Bigs Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 we fished all along the part where those tunnels are and the 500 foot stretch or so thats after the tunnels. Then we fished some other part that I never been to before and thats where I was able to get one dink. I would be out on my boat right now but Im sick again, being out yesterday didnt help. I probably should have stayed in yesterday and went out today instead, oh well. Maybe tommorow I will head out if I feel any better. Quote
Super User VolFan Posted November 15, 2009 Super User Posted November 15, 2009 Did you guys make it up to the sewage plant? Quote
Bigs Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 Did you guys make it up to the sewage plant? Ya Im pretty sure thats where we were when we saw all the fish jumping. I dont know 4 mile run real well so I will let Thai answer that. Did anyone go out today ? I know someone must have been catchin some bass in this 70 degree weather. Quote
Thai Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Yea we made it up to the discharge Fished today with Dan at some ponds new and old and were able to pull about 10 fish out with a few very decent ones Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 15, 2009 Super User Posted November 15, 2009 Thai is being humble, he forgot to mention that he was the one who caught the few "very decent" ones. He always catches bigger fish than me. Quote
