I'm tempted to break out the ultra light and fish my tank! who's down for some 3" fish???

Burke is frozen. I'm contemplating 4 mile run Saturday or Sunday. Anyone down with that?  I think I might be able to get the boat out and possibly play around in occoquan river.

How well do you know 4mile run? Are there spots in there that produce this time of year? If you dont mind I would like to join

4 mile run is just bank walkin'. I only know to fish just upstream of the rt1 bridge. That is the only deep water I know of besides the bend by the airport and that is not all that deep. I've caught fish at the discharge before, but that was a long time ago and I'm sure the depth around the discharge is quite different now. Thai, are you knowledgable about the run?

I've been there twice caught one bass out by the airport and a blue cat and near the discharge have pulled out one small dink, as far as knowledgeable, I'm sure your guess is as good as mine...

Did a quick google search and it seems that the bass are in there during the colder months, jerkbaits and jigs might be the ticket

I mean I've caught the crap out of them in there before. Smoke grubs on jig heads were my best producer but I have done well on other things. Jbs will work as well as rattle baits, senko, small worms. I've even had topwater action this time of year. It's a bit snaggy in some spots too

It seems snaggy, how far out does that erosion barrier extend to? Were you going to walk the bank or take your jonboat out?

probably just walk. Nelson is gonna try Friday. I havnt seen any cleared ramps yet so I think just a shore walk is all I can manage right now. Where is LHC, wonder if he has any winter spots on the river?  I might be able to make a call and see if we can fish a marina down on the occoquan river.

My winter spots are in front of the tv and or the computer.  I haven't fished 4 mile run in years, there use to be some sort of boat ramp that I had fished in the past with some success although never in winter.  One spot I hit up a lot last year during the winter was hunting creek right outside of old town alexandria.  I dont think I caught any large mouths there in the winter but I did get my best potomac river rock fish out there last feb.

4 mile can be spectacular or very humbling.  I have had 50 fish days throwing a weightless senko near any concrete structure and then been skunked the next day doing the same thing.  The water is very clear most of the time so you can see the fish bite.

I usually come down the left side by boat and if I have not been bit by the time I go under the route 1 bridge I can assume that the bite is off and I leave to fish the spoils or blue plains.  If I get bit I fish the whole place thoroughly as all those bridge supports hold fish.

If you guys hit 4 Mile let me know (especially Sunday) and I'll walk over and join, maybe show you around a little if needed. I tried it Sunday in the snow. Caught an ambitious bluegill on a big streamer, nothing else.

I had my m spinning outfit (for jerkbaits and some light jigs) and my 6 wt fly rod.  Ended up using the flyrod more.  The snow covers alot of things that snag the line.

So who is in and what day is suitable?  Unfortunatly it would take removing a metric ton of snow to get the boat out!! I'm looking at Saturday to walk around at 4 mile run.............. Anyone else interested??

Desperate measures call for desperate actions

Count me in

I'm fairly certain that the saying is: "Desperate times call for desperate measures."

And yes, I have to completely agree with all of yall.  I hate the cold, and won't go on the water in 30 Degree weather.  We need a heat wave!

I'm all about fishing whenever I can. If it ain't frozen, I'm tryin'!!  I don't care what the temperature is, if its doable I'm gonna give it a shot.
