arul Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Hey all, I am looking on basspro.com for some EWG weighted worm hooks to use with a Zoom super fluke. (where the weight is just above the bend) I can't seem to find any? Am I calling them the right thing? Do you know of any brands or names I could search under? thanks Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 30, 2008 Super User Posted March 30, 2008 I use the Falcon Bait Jerker hooks. I don't tie the hook on and then insert it into the Super Fluke. I use a small metal knitting needle, push it from the belly slit on thru the nose, hook the line, pull the line on out the belly slit and then tie on the hook. I then pull the hook eye on into the Fluke head and Txpose the point. This procedure prevents the larger hole that the weight would make in the bait if you tie the hook on first. Quote

Unweighted just takes way toooo long, and a couple twitches makes it rise too high... Quote
MNGeorge Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Bass Pro has them on page 358 of the master catalog. Also, Tackle Warehouse has them from several different hook makers. FWIW, I have tried these weighted hooks in Fluke type baits with less than satisfactory results. While they will get the fluke deeper in the water, they seem to reduce the action of the fluke significantly. Are you using the "Super Line" EWG hooks? They are made from slightly heavier wire and don't seem to affect the action of the fluke. We use up to 6/0 Super Line EWG Gamakatsu hooks for flukes even though we don't use braid for fluke fishing. Hooksets are no problem even with the 6/0 hooks. Flourocarbon line sinks, so that also helps get the flukes lower in the water column. Quote
ohiobassmaster93 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I like tackle warehouse cause they have everything!!!!but im not sure of the brand name but i went 2 basspro and got some of these with the weight rite in the bend..soo u might want 2 also look in2 that Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 30, 2008 Super User Posted March 30, 2008 arul, I use the 3/32 oz. 5/0 hook and fluorocarbon line for depths down to 20' The line tool is a knitting needle in size 10/1.30mm. I added the alligator clip to keep it handy clamped to the boat carpet. Quote

(My wife is a big knitter and crocheter) It looks like a good idea, though, very creative. Quote
Just_Old_Fisherman Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Lake Forck Tackle is making a good weighted hook for flukes/swimbaits. They are especially good for the larger baits. They come in 3/0, 5/0, 7/0 and 10/0. Barlows has/had some of them, some Wal-marts and Academy's. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted March 30, 2008 Super User Posted March 30, 2008 Thanks, MNGeorge, I wouldn't know one from the other. I just bought the one that looked like it would work. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 30, 2008 Super User Posted March 30, 2008 I got some of these for swimbaits last year. They are too long for a Super Fluke in my opinion. The hook style is like the Horny Toad Hook. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_52845?cmCat=CROSSSELL&cmid=PP_P0_2 Quote
BassinBoy Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I use Diachi on some of my Swimbaits. There good hooks. BPS has them. Quote

Nah, haven't tried the super line hooks, but I think going Flourcarbon would be a good help. That is the tricky thing- I want the fluke down there, but I don't want to lose the action getting it there. :-[ Maybe I am just using the wrong bait for 15-20 ft. deep...??? Abandon the whole fluke idea for that depth and just jig or worm it? :-? Quote

Barlows website is: http://www.barlowstackle.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=6&Product_ID=2980&CATID=111 Barlow's only shows the 7/0 and 10/0. I got mine by calling LFT direct: Call 800 408-2028 ext. 13 to place an order. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted March 31, 2008 Super User Posted March 31, 2008 I make my own to any weight with any hook using Storm suspend strips wrapped around the hook shank. "On the spot" tinkering is convenient, but I "pre-manufacture" a few and coat them with fingernail polish and the wraps last longer. Quote
