piranha catches

any of you west palm and palm beach gardens guys fish that lake that they caught 2 piranhas in? i was just watching the channel 12 news and they put in a chemical that kills everything in the lake. they were carrying out bucket loads of dead bass, bream, chiclids and anything else that swims. the reporter said "on a brighter note, fwc promises to restock the lake once the chemical kills everything in it".

my exgirlfriend and i were fishing in a canal system around here about a year ago when she got a bite on her tiki stick, she was freaking out, because it fought harder than anything she was accustomed to. she said she had a weird fish on, and i thought maybe it was a mudfish (she'd never seen one) so I sorta shrugged it off and went to help her, turns out, best I can tell, it was a pirahna. i didn't know what the heck it was when she got it,I'd been fishing those waters for 10 years and never seen anything like it. so i threw it back in after getting it unhooked, thne i went home and did some research and found out thats what it was...weird

I dont know about piranha, but people catch pacu all the time, they get big and look like piranhabut no teeth

Its bad enough that we have Oscars, in are waters, that the public turn lose because they get to big and do not now what to do with them.Eat them they-er great table fair.Plus they-er 6-7 different species of Piranha ranging from 3inches to 3lbs if my memory serves me right.I went to the Amazon for peacock fishing, great time to, but the different ways they catch there fish is amazing, and the children splashing about would make you shiver.they say there is one of the following piranha that is feared the most ,in which I can not remember.I'm pretty sure its not the red belly though.Blood sent would absolutely drive them nuts, and yes, they do not attack for spite.Any thing wounded is fair game, including humans.Their are facts of crashes in the rivers, with injuries, few survive do to piranha attacks,natural killing machine.Any blood drawn is a ring of the dinner bell.

the guy whose daughter caught the piranha was on the radio today and he said that fwc did shock the pond, but no piranhas turned up. the next step was to kill everything in the pond. they ended up finding 3 more.

I'm sure you are refering to the black piranha(serrasalmus rhombeus) the largest and most aggressive of the piranhas and reaching over 20"...it's a good thing they are solitary since a school of those would decimate all...I had a 17" one back in the day that was the biggest ***** ever he would charge at anything near his tank

You're suggesting someone eat their pet fish ? You have to be a cold hearted person to do that. I rather just take it to a pet store and let them have it before I eat it.  You realize how creepy that sounds dont you ?

they say thats why piranhas are illegal in va due to their adaption in fresh water. they was claim to be dump in lake anna from only what i hear but i did use to own one. at the time maryland sold them in pet stores.not sure now been 10 years ago. and pacus are commonly mistaking as the red belly.  sucks to have to poison a lake or bodies water to only get to one breed of fish. im truely shock that they just dont rid carnivore fish period. i gues if it not natural they dont want it. but im with whoever says shock treatment. that what we do in ap hill after trout season to rid the trout from warm weather.

Adaptation to freshwater? Are you saying their home range is anything but freshwater? Piranhas would never be able to survive our colder months. Anything below 68 and they will start to die. Some states ban them others don't, VA is just one of the states that does.

no and i was just relating to the rumors about lake anna which is possible for pirahnas surviving winter at the lake with the plant there.

The problem for the Piranha at Anna would be the Stripers.  A solitary piranha or two would have a tough time surviving with those huge schools or rockfish eating everything in their path.

My guess is they are trying to avoid what has happened with the snakehead in parts of VA.  My cousins fish an area where they will catch 3 snakeheads for every 1 bass.  I'm not sure what river it is, but it outlets into salt water so at least the snakeheads are stuck there.

there is a guy here on this forum that fishes for snakeheads on potomac. im sure he can speak more on them than i could only thing i deal with close to them are those bowfins. yet to catch any snakeheads as well. but i always did want one as a pet fish after my piranha died. but instead i turn my 55 gal tank into snake cage than he out grew it so i sold the snake with tank back to pet pandemonium in stafford.

i did. it was a small one. i wonder how long it will take for that little pond to come back to life? when fwc stocks it again, will they put peacocks in there? some moron had to ruin that lake by putting a pirhana in it. sad.
