Super User Sam Posted November 11, 2009 Super User Posted November 11, 2009 We are getting clobbered with much needed rain in Virginia this week. The ponds, lakes and rivers should be at full pool when these rain clouds pass out of our area. Only problem is that the waters will be dirty and we will have trees falling from having too much moisture in the ground. But we really need the rain and personally I am glad to have every drop. The rivers will be muddy for at least a week, which will slow down bass fishing, but after everything settles down, we should continue to have a good fall heading into the winter months. It looks like this will be a "watching football and basketball on TV" weekend. Quote
Bigs Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Sad to say tho, theres no amount of rain that will replenish lake anna water levels anytime soon. I checked on my house on the private side last week and it was alarmingly low. Not good for fishing and not good in general. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 11, 2009 Super User Posted November 11, 2009 You may want to check out the two lakes near Farmville. They are fed by small creeks that pass thru forests which reduces the amount of silt in the runoff. Briery Creek did not get real muddy from the past two heavy rains, just heavy to moderate stained. It didn't affect the fish catching in any negative way. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 11, 2009 Author Super User Posted November 11, 2009 420 Angler - Friends fish the hot side and so far they have not complained about the water levels. I plan to fish a few times in January and February and I hope the water levels get higher. Wayne - As for muddy waters, I was thinking of the Rapp, Mattaponi, Pamunkey and James Rivers in my neck of the woods. Glad to hear some waters will not get all that mud in them. Thanks to both for your feedback. P.S. I would think that Buggs would rise a lot and get close, if not to full pool. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted November 11, 2009 Super User Posted November 11, 2009 I love it. Smith Mtn needs the water and with it being stained, it should turn on a pretty dependable spinnerbait bite. Bring it on! Quote
heyitskirby Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Worst part of the rain...James River will be up past flood stage all weekend and the forecast for Sunday is in the 70's. Teasing weather... Was gonna take the boat out and do some cat fishing... Probably time to winterize since I'll be busy the next couple of weekends. Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 15, 2009 Super User Posted November 15, 2009 Might be nice for you, but here there is a lot of flooding. The tidal creeks were overflowing into peoples homes. Underpasses had 8 feet of water. I had no power for 48 hours (Had no power for 36 hours - just long enough to have food go bad. It came on for 6 hours - just long enough to replace that food. Then it went out again for 12 hours - just long enough for that new food to get warm.) On thursday, the waves were breaking against the side of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Tree down all over the place. A friend of mine lost her garage. This storm wasn't as bad as Hurricane Isabell, but it was close here. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 Sorry to hear everything got ugly up there Micro. The creeks and rivers here didnt get too out of hand but it was close. We got more rain than I first anticipated and it muddied up the whole upper end of the lake all the way down to Stony Creek. It was way more muddy than the 'stain' I was hoping for, plus the water temps in the upper creeks dropped 8 degrees in 3 days. I had to idle all the way out of the back of Beaverdam Creek where my ramp is out to the main channel before I could even think about getting on plane. Once we made it to the main lake it was like driving through a mine field with all the trash and logs and trees floating around. Quote
