Super User Dan: Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 I honestly don't think we have enough members with boats to make it work. Quote
Jake... Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 so you're all going to be lined up on the bank, or what? Sounds difficult without boats. yes thats the plan Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 so you're all going to be lined up on the bank, or what? Sounds difficult without boats. yes thats the plan lol, that's what I'm picturing. I think a boat count needs to be established before we have everyone "sign up" Quote
Thai Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 if you're in I can get us a boat Dan, either the John boat or Xpress Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 if you're in I can get us a boat Dan, either the John boat or Xpress I mean, if there are enough people and boats to make it fair, I'm in, I just really don't think we're going to have enough. Quote
shimmy Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Worse case scenario, i have a raft with a trolling motor that can fit two if needed. Who has boats that wouldn't mind sharing this weekend???? Doesn't need to be fancy, a john boat would work. Quote
quanjig Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I have a small jon boat, probably not very stable on the river but plenty good for the res and lakes. So thats me + whoever Quote
Ldavis Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Is this going to happen? At the moment I am off to fish Sunday Quote
Bigs Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I have a small jon boat, probably not very stable on the river but plenty good for the res and lakes. So thats me + whoever The river was like glass today, I think a piece of plywood nailed to a couple of kegs with a trolling motor would even work out there right now as long as its not windy. I agree with Dan tho, I dont see this happening unless you mix shore teams with boat teams. So you would have maybe 3 or 4 teams in boats and a few more fishing from shore. I just saw a nice pelican boat on craigslist for 150 bux in maryland the other day. Something like that would suffice for the current non boaters. Theres tons of jon boats on craigslist right now for under 400 bux. Quote
shimmy Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Alright, lets just say Burke lake. By the sounds of the types of boats that will be available, lets just say Burke. This will be the easiest to coordinate and if shore fisherman come, we can figure out how we will set the rules for this as well later on. Burke lake, i know nothing about it but that its hard which should make this pretty fun. Shore fisherman should have a partner as well. Quote
quanjig Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Would be nice if we could get everyone in a boat, not a whole lot of productive water for shore fishing at Burke. Is there another place that gives equal access to good areas to catch quality fish?? I did figure out how to post pics, I posted the Burke fish a friend and I caught last Sunday in the tournament/ outings section. Quote
NewAngler Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 By my count there are three boats available. Thai can get one Quanjig has one Shimmy has a raft that can fit two. And 420 angler might buy about 7-8 new boats by then. We should be good. Haha. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 how realistic is it to fish from a bass boat at Burke? would i be fine with my outboard as long as i do not run it? how realistic is it to fish with a trolling motor only? I'm game for Saturday. let me know. Quote
mudkart Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 how realistic is it to fish from a bass boat at Burke? would i be fine with my outboard as long as i do not run it? how realistic is it to fish with a trolling motor only? I'm game for Saturday. let me know. I've seen people use only their TM on glass boats at Burke. AFAIK this is legal. This time last year I also saw someone idling w/ their gas motor. Do so at your own risk. If you use the VDGIF ramp, I would not count on being able to motor a glass boat onto the trailer. Some heavy duty winching is required. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 yeah, I would stay clear of the VDGIF ramp with anything other than a kayak or canoe... Quote
soccplayer07 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 thanks for the info. i'll stick with the potomac this weekend. good luck guys. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 I should add that the main ramp seems like it would handle a glass boat perfectly well. Quote
quanjig Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Aaron, you could easily drop your boat in Burke. You would just need to trim up the outboard when putting in. How easily you winch your boat back on the trailer is the sticky point. Lake was at full pool on Sunday, plenty of water to put a glass big boat in. People with small outboards do idle out there as said before, at your own risk. This time of year not a big deal IMO. Quote
NewAngler Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 So 3, possibly 4 boats. Not bad. JVM also wanted to fish Burke on saturday. Me Shimmy Quanjig Thai ? Dan ? D16 ? Soccplayer ? Quote
RockvilleMDAngler Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 If this is going to be on the Potomac I would be interested as long as I can be off the water no later than 2:30. I have a dinner that I have to go to that night which starts at 5:00 and I will need to get dressed and put the boat at my storage location in Damascus. I have a 16'2" bass boat with 90hp Yamaha. Bigs Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I would love to do burke lake but my boat is over 20 feet long and almost 2 thousand pounds. Hand winching it all the way in isnt even an option. I need to use the motor to get it up far enough on the trailer when I load it up. I just saw a 12 foot jon boat on craigslist with a trolling motor for 2 hundred bux!! You guys should hop on one of these winter boat deals. Im even tempted to buy one with the prices Im seeing right now. Quote
Bigs Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 This is right by my house if anyone wants me to go see it for them. Impossible deal to beat for $200. You just need a trailer or huge truck to move it around. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/boa/1468389148.html Look at this for $150!!I don't understand thats crazy cheap! http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/boa/1460512091.html Quote
evanj Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 hey guys new to the forum! seems like the lower potomac is doing well this time of year. i fish the upper potomac regularly, and mattawoman maybe twice a year. i read this thread in its entirety and find it very very interesting, and am going to make it a point for me to drive down somewhere around pohick bay or 4 mile run or one of these places you guys are talking about (if you guys don't mind that is!) and try to catch some largemouth and stripers hopefully! i just have to do some research of an area to go to, maybe around a boat ramp or something, where some decent shore fishing might be. awesome thread!
