NewAngler Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 It's on like "fish on!" Conceived from the brutal thread beating Shimmy and LittleHuntingCreek have started I've decided to try to organize a fish off. The Fall 2009 fish offs theme will be "team little bait vs. team big bait". Here is what I am thinking; 1. The event will be formed of two teams, as said. 2. Each team will have the equal amount of people, and must need equal amounts of boats, if needed. 3. There will need to be a clear cut distinction of Lbig baitL and "small bait" and all parties will have to agree. At least the team "captains". I vote Shimmy and LHC to be, as per the bout in the other Potomac thread. All people that want to particpate PM me or post here. The day will be the tricky part, so also include a day that will work for you. Maybe some money involved.......???? EDIT: NO MONEY INVOLVED. Quote
Thai Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Money will put people off, a just for bragging right tourney will do. Quote
JVM Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I'm in. No boat, Can fish AM's and anytime Sun/Mon. Also willing to take off work to be part of this huge event in * history! Quote
NewAngler Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Okay... So it didn't take off like I thought it would. I thought I'd have Mike Ike and KVD fighting to get in this showdown. Dags. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 cant we just have a friendly two man team tourney? Quote
JVM Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 cant we just have a friendly two man team tourney? I agree. This time of the yr would prob work good for the whole big bait vs finesse theory too. Just my 2 cents tho. With fishing slowing it would be nice to get some kind of tourney going soon just for fun. shimmy Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 This upcoming saturday i say we hammer one out. Now, the one thing i do know is that littlehuntingcreek may not be catchin any giants recently but he sure seems to catchin alot. Definite props to him. If anyone has a chance to get the limit, it would be him. As for those who enjoy the bigger tossed baits, it could be interesting. Fun, but interesting none the less. Maybe we initiate the rule that you keep your two biggest bass. While tossing the big bait i'm pretty sure gettin two bass alone will be a challenge. Nevertheless, this could make for some interesting results. Biggest weight combined wins, biggest fish gets the respect, and if i don't catch any, (which could happen) then i'm sure a rematch could be planned out. Quote
NewAngler Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 Lets start it up. I will have most of saturday to fish. I have yet to have a full day of fishing, so I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. Let's establish a list of who all wants in. So far I have; 1. Me. 2. Thai (I'm assuming) 3. JVM 4. Shimmy 5. LHC What body of water? Boats? maybe a place that rents Jon boats? will the scales be the same? Quote
shimmy Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 well whoever my partner is better know the water that we hit because i will be worthless in terms of knowing the lakes around here. But it would be fun to hit a harder one like Burke and see how we fare out. I think quanjig might be in as well. He knows the lake pretty well it sounds like. Any other lake suggestions or should we plan on it and get 3 to 4 teams of 2 if we can? Biggest weight of two fish wins? Quote
Thai Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Just so there is no unfair advantage the proper course would be to suggest certain bodies or water and randomly generate the choice Quote
soccplayer07 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I'm interested depending on location. i would prefer to use my own boat instead of renting one. keep me updated. Quote
NewAngler Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 How about this; Burke Lake (rental jon boats) Potomac (boats could be used, or left out) Beaverdam (no idea about boats) Fountainhead (rentals?) Quote
egolfer Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 At first I though this sounded like a 'pick-up' tournament. But, the after reading through the post, I can't seem to figure it out what the plan is. Anyways, I am down to participate on the Potomac. I have a boat and mostly likely a co-angler. Hammer out some details and hopefully I can show up. I plan on fishing both Saturday and Sunday this week. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I'm down for the Potomac too. I agree, I'm not to sure what is going on with all this big bait vs. little bait stuff...Why are we only using the two bag limits? I vote for a simple two man tourney. If not everyone has live wells a picture of fish on the scale would suffice. Keep it simple, have fun and meet new people! Quote
quanjig Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Sounds like fun. Here are some things to consider as well. All I have is a jon boat, co-angler welcome. Burke is no longer renting boats and niether is Fountainhead. No rentals at Beaverdam to my knowledge. If Burke is chosen as the "fishoff" site, I have a fairly detailed map of brushpiles and contours so no team feels at a disadvantage. Let's keep the ideas going, could be something we do on a regular basis as far as a get together!! Quote
Jake... Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 i thought yall were doin a little bait vs big bait contest or something Quote
NewAngler Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 I think the little vs big needs to be trashed. Also, is it safe to say we can take Burke lake of if they are not renting anymore...? as well as fountainhead and Beaverdam..? that leaves the potomac.. haha Quote
Jake... Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I think the little vs big needs to be trashed. Also, is it safe to say we can take Burke lake of if they are not renting anymore...? as well as fountainhead and Beaverdam..? that leaves the potomac.. haha thats what the whole debate was over! without that there was no reason for a fish off who gonna catch better fish on small bait vs big bait. someone gotta resolve that for bragging rights Quote
NewAngler Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 I think before we do that we need to clarify what constitutes a big bait vs a little bait. The whole argument was on a three inch senko. Does that mean Team Little needs to throw things three inches and less, and Big Team throws everything above 3 inches? Quote
shimmy Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Its sounding like Burke and Potomac are the main front runners. And as someone mentioned, this is something that i'm hoping we keep up in the future especially during the spawn. I am thinkin we need a head count. I have heard several people mention they would like to but it would be nice to get a bunch of teams and the rules will eventually follow. By the sounds of it, potomac might offer the best chance for numbers but it might be harder for everyone to meet up at a spot. I think Burke might be the easiest to coordinate but the hardest to fish. Either way, a head count is needed so we can start getting teams and anyone else that jumps in during the week can join in as well. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 16, 2009 Super User Posted November 16, 2009 so you're all going to be lined up on the bank, or what? Sounds difficult without boats. Quote
quanjig Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Sounds like we need a boat count ifin we're gonna get "out on the water" Quote
Bigs Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I have a pretty big house on the warm side of lake anna that can accomidate at least a dozen people. The fishing there will be on fire next month. Maybe we can set something up. Shore fishing isnt really an option there tho since its all private owned lots. But if we had maybe 4 or 5 boats with 2 people each then it could get interesting. I much rather fish the potomac but the fishing on the warm side of lake anna is better in the winter then the potomac is. If not then maybe pre spawn we can head out there for some friendly competition. Just a thought Quote
shimmy Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 thats a good idea as well 420. With this little tourny, i was under the assumption that we are going to have boats. Worse case scenario is that a few teams have a small john boat or raft. I have a bigger raft that does fine and if thats the best people can bring i say we do it anyways. I'd prefer this not to be a shore fishing tourny. Quote
