Nkybassfisherman Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Anybody ever fished here?? i will be down in florida during december and i was wondering if this place is as good as they say it is. i was there once during April and the water was down and caught two small bass no bigger than 12 in.. i will be stuck fishing off of the bank so which lakes would you recomend for bank fishing and how would you go at targeting the fish. What lures have proved to work best here?? Any info at all about this place will help. thanks. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 20, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 20, 2009 Not many local bank fishermen on this site. I fished it more than 20 times from a boat last year, mostly in Lake B or Lake 5. While we had good numbers days, we did not catch any over 5 lbs. They have several lakes on the property that have excellent bank access, but I don't know how good the bass fishing really is. Here is a link to a weekly central Florida fishing report that usually includes Tenoroc in the "Around Polk Co" section. http://www.theledger.com/section/sports09 Quote
ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Went by a few spots, may of even fished a few spots, to what I know is that some waters are green-pumpkin in color to a Teal vibrant color, blues and greens,I would have to look at some of my notes to see if I had fished them.I also take a pole to the FL. Auto Action, and toss a line,or two.More than 25 lakes around that area, plus another 12 or so that I know of, but you would want to fish Lake Parker, Hancock, or Hamilton if those names are correct, been a long time.Yup.Acording to my notes I like Hancock the most. BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 21, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 21, 2009 OK, here is the real scoop. Lake Parker is 4 ft below normal water. Unless you are launching a canoe, the ramps are useless. There are two public fishing piers if you want to catch catfish. Lake Hancock has no public access unless you count the dirt ramp on Saddle Creek where CR 540a crosses it, again you might launch a canoe right now. Lake Hamilton has a little better access but is not known as a bass lake. It is famous for Speckled Perch but most of the local clubs have stopped holding tournaments there because of the low bass numbers. The bottom line is this, the Peace River watershed, which includes most of the lakes in Polk Co west of US 27, is just about unfishable right now because of record low water levels. There are a few that I can still fish but you must do it from a boat if you want a chance at catching bass. I fish almost every weekend. If work does not pick up, I will be fishing more than that in December. Send me a PM with the specifics of when and where you will be, and I will try to get you out with me. FD Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 21, 2009 Super User Posted November 21, 2009 Lee, I was informed just last week that the ramp at Lake Fannie was upgraded. But I don't know what the water level is like right now, and was wondering if you did. I personally haven't been on Fannie since last year, and if I didn't have a 14-footer I'm not sure I could've made it out. Very good bass water by the way. Roger Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 21, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 21, 2009 Roger, New ramps and or docks on Gibson, Hartridge, Cannon, Shipp, Pansy, Summit and Alfred that I have seen. I have not been on the North chain but I will check it out for you. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 21, 2009 Super User Posted November 21, 2009 Roger, New ramps and or docks on Gibson, Hartridge, Cannon, Shipp, Pansy, Summit and Alfred that I have seen. Summit is the one that interests me (en route to Winterset), and now of course, the Cypress Gardens water shows are history I have not been on the North chain but I will check it out for you. That'd be great! Roger Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 21, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 21, 2009 The Summit ramp is great, but the canal to Eloise is shallow. You can probably still get through however the canal to Winterset is blocked by construction. If you want to fish Lulu, you have to walk. The canals from Shipp and Eloise are both dry. Quote

A neighbor where we live keeps a pontoon boat in the south Winter Haven chain, and he's been basically landlocked for several months! But I wasn't aware of how widespread the problem is. Well, we're heading out in a few minutes, either to the private launch at Walk-In-Water or maybe the Kissimmee River (the raingear is packed). When this shad jump is over, we won't just be passing by "Shiners Unlimited" Roger Quote
