Bigs Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I already have outgrown my tracker pro guide v16 and I wanna get a bass boat. I should have bought one to begin with but whats done is done. I cant seem to find one single place other then pops marine that sells used fiberglass bass boats. And pops is closed on the weekend, total BS. I found a list of marine/marinas in va and called every single one of them with no luck. Seems like all of them sell ski boats and crusiers. Help! Quote

Bigs Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 They have nice stuff but wow are they over priced!!! Selling 9 thousand dollar boats for 13 grand geesh. I guess most dealerships are gonna be that way, same as buying a car. If they would gimme alot on trade for my tracker I would drive down there but somehow I doubt they will gimme anything even close to a fair trade value. Quote
Bigs Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 man Im on craigslist trolling 3-4 times a day looking. Both the boats I own now I bought off of craigslist actually. There isnt one decent deal in va or md right now unless its on a small boat or older boat. There was tons of deals before tournament season but now they are few and far between. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 22, 2009 Super User Posted August 22, 2009 There is a repo store next to Greentop in Glen Allen. Every now and then they have some beautiful bass boats. I don't know their name but if you Google Greentop Sporting Goods in Glen Allen, Virginia and give them a call, the guys in the fishing department can give you their name. I asked a friend why I do not see a lot of bass boats for sale in this economic situation and he said because the guys know that they can not get the price for them that they want, so only a few are for sale at this time. I have seen some bass boats for sale along the highways and byways in Virginia. Good luck. Â Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 22, 2009 Super User Posted August 22, 2009 I totally forgot about the Virginia Bass Federation and their classified ads. Go to  www.vabass.com  and click on the classifieds. There are always bass boats for sale. Good luck and let me know if you find anything via a PM.  Quote

Bigs Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 so u show me links for 3 cheap old boats and what ? I dont want a piece of junk. I have searched every listing you can think of on there within 400 miles of my house. In fact I buy and sell stuff all the time on ebay and craigslist whether it be campers, trailers, landscape equipment, musical instruments, collector items, the list goes on. I know theres tons of boats on craigslist but right now theres no decent 20 foot bass boats at all anywhere between raleigh and NYC that Im aware of.Most are aluminum , or they are old or they are 17 feet long. Then theres a ton that have stories like repair work or whatever. I have spoken to probably a dozen ppl selling bass boats in the last 2 weeks and alot have stress cracks, previous repairs, havent been maintained proper , look worn out or dated, ugly paint scheme, under sized motor, or are just flat out over priced. I know what Im lookin for which is along the lines of a late 90's or later 20+ foot boat made by either bass cat, ranger, skeeter, stratos or triton with a 200hp motor. Altho all tritons only have 2 seats and I fish 3 ppl in my boat sometimes. I want a boat that handles rough water AND has a stable fishing platform. The best choices for that seems to be ranger, skeeter, bass cat or triton. I have been to that repo lot already next to green top, checked there a few weeks ago and first off they are a complete and total ripoff and second they usually only stock center consoles and yachts. They never ever have bass boats as bass boats are almost never repossesed from what I have seen. I have looked at pops marines inventory and they have nothing that even comes close to interesting me and neither does anglers choice. Im either gonna buy a boat for 10 grand outright or put 10 grand down and buy a 15-18k dollar used boat. If only I could find a marina that had fair prices and the right kinda boats, no such luck. mudkart Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Sigh. Your o.p. did not mention anything about 20-foot-boats-only, or any requirements beyond "fiberglass" and "bass boat." Quote
Bigs Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Sorry , I should have been more specific. All I really wanted to know is what marinas have a good selection. I just talked to two more ppl selling and both boats have stress cracks around the transom. I just cant seem to find a quality boat for a good price that doesnt have some kinda issue or story behind it. And I want something heavy, narrow, stable and long. Thats why Im thinkin ranger, bass cat or skeeter. Triton or stratos would be next choices. Â Think Im gonna go check out a skeeter 202C , does anyone know anything bout those ? Quote

slider head Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I got mine here. Great people to deal with. I could not deal with Danglers Choice............http://foothillsboats.com/CatalogPro.asp?Collection=6 Quote
Bigs Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 checked out the link but that place is an even bigger ripoff then anglers choice. Who in their right mind would spend 20 grand on a 10 year old triton? Umm ya. Appreciate the effort guys but I have realized that no dealer/marina is gonna get my business. They are all ripoff artists as far as Im concerned. Funny but sad. I feel bad for anyone who buys a used boat from a dealership :-? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 29, 2009 Super User Posted August 29, 2009 If you are finding that all the stores are ripoffs then maybe you need to adjust your expectations? Quote
Bigs Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Those places cater to people with good credit who have very little money in hand tho. Im not broke and I have good credit(700+). I can buy a boat in cash but cant find one I like anywhere unless its in ohio, georgia, texas, north carolina, etc.. Those dealers get 99 percent of their business from people who can only afford or only wanna part with 10 percent down so lets say 2 grand, and they finance the rest at a decent rate of 7-8 percent for 8 years makin their payments around 150 bux or so. Me on the other hand , I wanna pay cash for a boat around 11-13 grand or so and not finance anything. Well they dont like that cuz they wanna make money on the financing since they do it all in-house. So the kinda folks that shop there are just so happy to get a loan in this economy that they dont mind paying an extra 25 percent of what the boat is really worth. Compare book value as well as completed listings on ebay and craigslist prices to what they sell for and you will see its about 20-30 percent more there. They want 20 grand for a triton that sells for 13-14 on ebay. No way no how Im doin that. So Im gonna put down 12 grand on a 20 thousand dollar boat, finance the other 8 grand when I can just pay an extra 2 grand and get it from a private owner? I didnt get where I am in life by being naive and desperate. Im very very shrewd when it comes to anything money related. I'll just have to be more patient. Sux tho cuz my tracker is officially gone now as of yesterday and my other boat isnt really potomac river worthy. I no longer have any expectations from these places and wont waste another keystroke or my breath talkin to them or lookin at their websites. Im lookin at a tr21 as well as a 1999 20 foot ranger with a 225 optimax both for 14 grand. The ranger is only 130 miles away, just tryin to see if we can get a pre purchase inspection set up. Im hoping one of these boats works out. If not, it's that time of year where deals are gonna start poppin up left and right, only a matter of time. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 30, 2009 Super User Posted August 30, 2009 But doesn't buying from a dealership also have its advantages against buying on ebay or craigslist? ie: warranty, peace of mind about the condition of the boat, etc...? Quote
NewAngler Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Mare Boats of Aquia. dont know if theyre used or not. its right off RT 1 about 3 miles past courthouse road. Quote
slider head Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Have you asked any of these places what a cash price would be??? I cant do this......but my father can. One offer cash money. He made ridiculous offers on his Ranger and his truck. Both times I thought I broke my jaw when it hit the floor. Took a day or 2 but they called and took his offer. I know for a fact the guys @ Foothills would rather deal in cash! Call em and see. A bird in hand........cash money talks. Quote
Bigs Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 most of the desirable boats like a champion 203 or a basscat cougar are hard to come by let alone for a deal. No one seems to care if I have cash or not. Trust me I have tried dealing with a few people and most wont even budge a dime. Buying a car is ten times easier for me. When I bought my expedition 3 weeks ago I had the manager follow me out the door and shout out a final offer that was 50 bux more then I offered, so I took it. When all was said and done I got it for 800 less then their "internet sales price" which is even hard to do these days. I buy and sell alot of cars so I would know. Im a bargain shopper with everything. Quote
