nickw234 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I am looking to take a trip to Lake Okeechobee on my Christmas break from school. I was looking into going to the Roland Martin Marina. But mostly I want to know how the fishing is in this time. The time i would be going would be between Dec. 18-Jan. 9. I haven't picked the days yet but would just like some advice on how it is during the winter. Thanks, Nick. Quote
gatrboy53 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 the best christmas present you could get! unless you get the first of a cold front that shuts em down for a few days.... should be on!!! Quote
gar-tracker Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 December will be great, you'll have pre spawn, and spawn, the lakes in absolutely pristine shape. Heavy gear, chucking and winding frogs, or pitching cattails. Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 should be awesome in december last year was a good year out there. Quote
petervd Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm looking to fish okeechobee during christmas break as well. Right now I'm down at FAU starting my junior year. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 2, 2009 Super User Posted September 2, 2009 Roland Martin and his former wife Mary Ann founded the renowned "Roland Martin Marina" on Lake Okeechobee. When they were still operating the fish camp, Roland was asked what month was his favorite for bass in the Big-O. Roland replied "December" (His favorite lure was a black-nickel Johnson Spoon with grub trailer). Roger Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 3, 2009 Super User Posted September 3, 2009 I anticipate being on lake "O" at least 3-4 days a week all of December and Jan. Quote
bocabasser Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I anticipate being on lake "O" at least 3-4 days a week all of December and Jan. what time are you picking me up? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 6, 2009 Super User Posted September 6, 2009 Haha, I think it's the other way around. You have to come past my place to get to the lake. Besides, don't you have a class to teach? ;D ;D ;D Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 It will be some of the best fishing you ever had! If you do get a front don't get discouraged at all! Rip Rat-L-Traps through grass, pitch big jigs in cattails and flip mats and pads with T-rigs! Still very good fishing! Quote
